WBC 330/50 Availability

Openreach - Upto 1.6gbps

DSL Checker - WBC 330/50

Providers vary between max 300 and max 1.6gbps

PlusNet answered a question the first time i tried to order by saying it was "older technology on the line" . What does this mean? It can't be the ECI issue i think as this property has never had any sort of FTTP. only fttc.

Is it a case that theyre going to upgrade the exchange?

For context, im on Churchtown (Southport) Exchange, Cabinet 7. Cabinet 8 on the road next to me shows as WBC 1000/220.

What gives? Smiley

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07 Can you please post the results (as full screenshots) from either: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL or https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome ? In either case, please obscure personal details.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

Attached, checked a few addresses on the same cabinet, all the same. Cabinet 8 seems to be fine.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07 That does look strange WBC FTTP does not touch cabs. Wonder if someone with more knowledge ( @Townman  / @MisterW  ) can answer this?

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07

Full Fibre does not go to a cabinet. It is routed all the way to a Main Exchange - which may well be different from the Exchange you're currently on.

It appears somewhere in the routing is a piece of equipment which is limiting the available speed to 330/20. This was a known problem in the past but I understood OR were working to upgrade all equipment to overcome this nationwide.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07   nothing to worry about, give it a few days and it should show 1000, just BTW needing to upgrade some equipment.

Openreach are always ahead of the game when they lay new fibre, but is not available to order until days later.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

Thought about it, @Mustrum  - that's the old FTTP On Demand figures, isn't it?

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

Ill keep an eye on it for sure over the next couple months. It's been available for a couple months now with no change so I'm not too confident about the "give it a few days" comment but considering VM dragged their feet for 3 months on my install, I'd rather come back to OR on 330 than wait for VM to eventually blow the fibre.

From my visibility on the checker before we moved in to this house and before the rollout, you are correct, thats what i saw with FTTPoD

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07 WBC FTTP is always shown as 1000Mbps, - that is the default, what has happened here is the OR have only part- updated your cabs record. Unfortunately, first line staff won't know this, and probably gave you a 'best guess', but wrong, answer.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

So in actuality, 900 can be ordered but because OR have only part-updated the record, they wont be able to place the order for the 900? Best way to get this fixed?

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@solman07 In a nutshell, that is correct. Unfortunately, I can't think of an easy way around this unless one of the Plusnet Community Team pick this up.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@jab1   FTTP has nothing to do with the cabinets, and whilst 330 was also use on FTTP on Demand, it is not that long ago that 330 was the max you could get on FTTP. The 1000 is a more recent thing, but requires updates in the BTW environment.

Openreach have their own checker, but unlike the BTW one, Openreach shows the max speed of the infrastructure available at an address, however it only does as far as the BTW equipment in the exchange, so BTW need to provide the higher speed interface and connections for ISP's to use.

Re: WBC 330/50 Availability

@Mustrum I know FTTP doesn't touch the cabs 😀. This looks like BTW haven't done the job properly when updating the checker. Unfortunately, we all know their foibles, but many ISP frontline staff, and, apparently, their automated checking, say 'sorry, not possible' unless that BTw data is correct.
