@Mustrum I know FTTP doesn't touch the cabs 😀. This looks like BTW haven't done the job properly when updating the checker. Unfortunately, we all know their foibles, but many ISP frontline staff, and, apparently, their automated checking, say 'sorry, not possible' unless that BTw data is correct.
Strange it may seem, but although OR FTTP doesn't come from the cabinet, FTTP upgrades are generally done by 'cabinet area'.

Yup, I know that too, @RobPN - although we weren't planned for FTTP until late this/early next year, because NexFibre and Connect Fibre put their kit in mid/end of last year, OR suddenly upgraded our whole exchange area early.

If you login to your PN account what speeds are you offered on Upgrade.
PN tend to go by the Checker results (they basically use the same system) so may only offer up to 300.

Sorry, I assumed you were a PN customer.
No matter, we can check another way. Go to the PN website, enter your post code and see what speeds are offered on Full Fibre.

@bmc Full Fibre 900 is the top
For context, the first time i ordered this from PN (last month, whilst i was was debating between VM and PN), this is what i received.
Openreach has informed us that due to some restrictions caused by older technology on your line, your connection is capped at 330Mbps
This time however, ive just ordered 300 to avoid the hassle.

That seems strange, @solman07 , if all the surrounding properties can get 1000Mbps, but if that is what they say...
TBH, unless you need the higher speeds, you should find 300 is enough.
Having said the above though, that statement/comment from OR doesn't make much sense (to me), as FTTP , as said before, doesn't touch the cabs.

@jab1 yeah its all over the place. Could be a capacity thing, who knows. Time will tell i guess. 300 will be fine for now

Hey everyone,
Unfortunately, this is the case with some properties around the UK where the speeds are 330/50 even if the surrounding properties can get 1000mbs when Openreach say.
"Openreach has informed us that due to some restrictions caused by older technology on your line, your connection is capped at 330Mbps"
What I think is if the property was part the Full Fibre trial when they were first rolling it out then those restrictions would be set at an exchange level as if it was the ONT then that could easily be re-placed however that's would I would think is the case.
Sad part is ISPs cannot change this

@Marsh But surely, as proper, rather than trial, FTTP, is delivered over dedicated cables etc, this can be rectified - or is the technology so inflexible?

@jab1 this is just what I think when Openreach inform older technology not confirmed though
I am not sure on the full ins and outs on the infrastructure and its limitations however we (and possibly over ISP's) have tried to see if it's possible for this to be changed but its looks not possible

Any idea why, @Marsh , or is it OpenReceach's decision? I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to make sense of what is, or isn't, happening.

@Marsh I'm not sure I'm understanding the trial part, are you implying they used older/slower equipment as part of a trial and now its capped at 330 until they can be bothered changing that equipment over to standardised stuff? Or they capped it at 330 for capacity to see how it runs and now we would have to wait until they remove those restrictions?
I'm not sure the area I'm in would have been considered a trial considering it only came online a couple months ago when other areas have been done before ours.
The frustrating part is that only ISP's can communicate with OR so in order to get definitive answers/timelines, i have to push for PN to ask those questions.

It has nothing to do with the trial, as already posted, Openreach have done their bit and delivered the fibre, but BTW need to finish thier part of the solution before ISP's get access to be able to deliver the higher speeds.
