What happens if fibre can’t be installed?

I’ve ordered fibre and I’m asking this because my installation might not be straight forward.

I’m currently on fttc the copper comes in from the street under my next door neighbour’s garden and up their wall to a small junction box where mine and my neighbours telephone cables then run to our houses. The armoured cable from the garden comes up through a paved path, there is no sign of conduit if it exists it’s under this decorative paving. So running a fibre connection this way may be impossible.

From the outside pavement there is my low front wall, then some bushes then my lawn then a concrete path then my house. The BT junction box on the pavement, a large underground box that they have been working in on and off for months is a couple of  feet from the low wall.
I asked one of the guys working there about the situation and he says they might end up having to put a pole up. The annoying thing is my next door neighbour on the other side gets their telephone feed from a pole.

A couple of questions, could they just drill through the low wall, dig a small trench over the garden and then reach my house or would a pole be necessary and would I be charged for any of this or could they say this is too much work and cancel the installation?

Re: What happens if fibre can’t be installed?

@Lwio

You'll only get a definite answer if you order FTTP and OR come out to survey your house.

First question would be is whether your neighbour plans to get FTTP - any work required might be easier if both houses are involved.

Second question is - is FTTP acutally available and what does the narrative say about installation. Look at

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

You need WBC FTTP in the left hand window. Below the results there will be a narrative about FTTP if it's available.

Re: What happens if fibre can’t be installed?

@bmc  The first post says Fibre (presumably FTTP) has already been ordered. It's up to Openreach to find a way to install the service. Possibly from the other neighbouring pole.

@RealAleMadrid

My error. However, the narrative might still be useful.

Re: What happens if fibre can’t be installed?

Thanks for the replies. I think the pole might be too far away. It’s a good bit up the street and, I’m no expert, might be at the maximum distance for my other neighbours house. I suppose we will see when they arrive. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar install. It unlikely my other neighbour, the one with the shared telephone line, would be upgrading to fttp they are elderly and I don’t think interested in higher speeds but you never know.

Re: What happens if fibre can’t be installed?

Well as predicted the installation was not straightforward but the guys choose the through the low wall under the garden route. The most difficult task was cutting the pavement and running the cable to the wall as there were other cables in the area. Job done anyway, It was very neat and actually quickly done. Speed was as promised. So nice job, open reach contractors and Plusnet.
