That's my theory about QOS out of the window then...

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

No worries, thank you for checking, appreciate it.

I just wondered if regrading the package temporarily back to 145 and then back to 300mb could have helped me too in the same way as I’ve exhausted every other option and the two BT Openreach technicians couldn't find a fault either with the hardware / setup.

Just frustrating having a 300mb line but not getting the minimum speed of 165mb.

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

@bobpullen is it a straight forward process to regrade the line to the older speed temporarily and bump it back up to the new 300 line again?

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

@Rambo23 - fairly straight forward, however it comes at a cost to Plusnet.

Do you know what Wi-Fi band the devices you're running speed tests from are connected to? e.g. I note at the moment that there's a OnePlus smartphone connected to the 2.4GHz radio. You're probably not going to get > 145mbps on the 2.4GHz band when using a Hub Two.

If the issues are being seen from a wired connection, then that does strike me as odd. Are we talking a failry recent-spec laptop?

The last thing I'd suggest trying before we consider regrading the circuit is to create a PPP connection on the laptop and try connecting it directly to the ONT's LAN port (thus removing the Hub Two from the equation). If this works at full speed, then it points towards something in the local environment.

I have run a speedtest to the ONT from here, and it's not indicative of any issues across the Openreach network (although seems the engineers have confirmed as much): -

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

Hi @bobpullen

Thanks for the reply.

So the wired connection I tried was on 5ghz for a Lenovo thinkpad, only 3-4 years old. The other devices I’ve tested wireless (iPhone) work on the 5ghz too. I just tried the PPP connection but no luck there either unfortunately.

Did you fail to get the PPPoE link to connect, or did it connect but with the same sub-par throughput?

Hi @bobpullen,

It connected but with the same output of 145mb.

Thanks again

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

@Rambo23 - thanks. I can see another engineer has been booked for Friday. Happy to wait for the outcome of that before I attempt anything?

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

Hi @bobpullen

If you can help with the regrading before then that would be amazing. If it works I’ll cancel the 3rd engineer visit.

Just let me know if it’s feasible.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Kind regards

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

Hi @bobpullen

No luck today.

thank you for trying.

hoping the senior openreach technician might be able to help, though the previous 2 technicians have been stumped.

kind regards

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

The regrade order hasn't completed. In retrospect it might not due to the presence of an open fault report on the line. I should probably have thought of that 🙄

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

@bobpullen Something changed, the upload speed is now showing 104Mb! What was,the regrade to?

Re: upgrade from fibre to full fibre 300 but not speed no increase

Hi @bobpullen the senior open reach engineers couldnt find a fault with the set up either. They’ve said it’s an issue with the account / line activation on Plusnet’s side.

It’s weird that the upload speeds have improved but not the download speed.

Very unusual.
