Re: Access point not working

Thanks for all the help so far. In answer to the queries:
1. The old router was a Plusnet hub one.
2. The access point used is a tp link tl-wa854re. It has been configured as an access point rather than booster as it has the choice of either and have reinstalled/ factory reset it to try to eliminate this as the problem. It was working fine before switching routers and seems to still work now as an AP emitter as devices can still pick it up on the wireless network for it, it’s just that it can’t connect to internet as it doesn’t seem to be picking up internet from the long Ethernet cable running to it.
3. The long Ethernet cable is around 15m from the bt hub itself to the AP.
4. As before, the only thing changed in the whole setup (which was working fine) is the replacing the PN router with the BT hub6. Hence wouldn’t have expected micr to have suddenly eaten through a cable or that the cable’s been knocked.
I haven’t got a network tester but maybe that is the next course of action unless you can think of anything’s else in the BT hub settings which is not making the Ethernet cable work over the distance?Huh

Re: Access point not working

@jrd01  What is distance to your garden office as ethernet  cabling should be good for 100 metres. ?

Reading the manual the unit seems to be a wireless only extender, looks like the access point is for devices local to the unit. Will have a closer read tomorrow.............

Key question - does it still work with the PN router, and does a laptop work with the long cable and PN router?

Is there a reason why this question has not been answered?

Re: Access point not working

So just go back to using the PN router.

If it is not broken....

Re: Access point not working

Lookin at the manual in more detail the unit is a wireless extender. That cable between router and the unit is pointless. if the extender is set to connect to the Plusnet router's SSID that setup wiil not work with the BT router, it need to be changed............

Re: Access point not working

Agreed @Champnet

Which, if the unit is indeed a TL-WA854RE, then begs the questions;

Does it even have an RJ45 socket?

How is the Ethernet cable connecting to it?

Re: Access point not working

@RobPN  There is an ethernet socket but it's for Access Point use to a device not back to the router......

Re: Access point not working

Fair enough, understood, @Champnet .  I'd had a brief look at it online and didn't spot one!  Embarrassed

Re: Access point not working

Thanks for the replies. TP link says that you can run it as an access point see below link and that’s how I thought I’d been using it prior to the router change.

Re: Access point not working

@jrd01  The issue is the BT Smart hub has an issue suppling enough ethernet signal to run the extender or a laptop when connected your longer cable.. If you got that working then the extender should work with no need for any changes.

Re: Access point not working

In one of your post you say the model no is a WA854RE, the link you give is for a WA850RE

In  differences  you will see one conects to the lan using Wi-Fi & ethernet the other is Wi-Fi only.

So Is your  device a WA854RE or WA850RE ?

Re: Access point not working

Thanks, so sounds like I need to boost the Ethernet signal. Is that possible? Would have thought 15m length would have been ok for it.?!
The AP is the WA850RE which has the AP feature.

That's an unbelievable admission for a cable that's only 15m long, if correct  @jrd01 will  be best keeping  the Plusnet router or investing in a different router...........

Thanks, that makes sense now. If @Mustrum 's right I'd be looking at replacing the router...............
