Re: BT business hub 6

@penfold

This does not look good. When working correctly it connects just once a day, this one seems to be failing to make the connection so is constantly retrying. My guess is that it’s dropped off the BT platform.

Re: BT business hub 6

Probably and likely not much I can do about it. I'll use it for now, until if or when it starts to play up ... Any advice on a decent router for around £50.

Re: BT business hub 6

My two cents..... FWIW   The Bussiness Smart Hub 6 & Bussiness are both reliable and pretty fast etc when working properly,

I have both but using Bussiness Hub  6  approx £25 ebay in Ex cond for about a year back no issues, im happy

With rSmart Hub 2  you cant spilt the channels pretty but much the same power CPU wise,

There seems to be a big hike in Price of TP Link or Non- BT routers to get the same kinda of specs. Plus some have millions of ugly Arials poking out all over.

****   With a Bussiness Hub 6 you can specify your own DNS and not Plusnet if you want to.  eg 1.1.1.2 or whatever

Re: BT business hub 6

@Empire  For info:

Whilst you can’t specify the DNS resolvers to use on the Plusnet Hub One, you can on the Hub Two.

Re: BT business hub 6

Ill have a look for another one on E-Bay.

Ill try another Factory reset, just for tryings sake.....

Agree they are pretty decent routers for people with no need for fancy features etc.

Re: BT business hub 6

@Baldrick1     agreed without wishing to appear the expert Baldrick1 thats you,

just for clarity on BH6   you can specify you own DNS resolvers however it only shows up  under the advanced settings > IPv4

tab,    on your Router home page  shows Plusnet DNS,  not the ones you may have added. also not so easy in Windows to see,

under linux ipinfo you can see your actual DNS conf files and the resolver address eg 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 etc blah

link here to old 2010 post

Important information about our DNS server address... - Plusnet Community

again big thank thanks to Baldrick1

his detailed, crystal clear posts is what got me to purchasing the BT Bussiness HUB 6 , i would not have bought one, but hey, imo they are really worth it for approx/depending £25 ish

Re: BT business hub 6

On a slightly different note, not sure if this is the hub or not, but it just refuses to stay connected to my smart TV via ethernet. It connects, and after around a day or so, decides the TV is disconnected and TV just reports ethernet disconnected when it is connected. No matter what I try with TV, reboots etc it will not regain a connection unless I reboot router. It's done it again tonight, TV reporting ethernet disconnected. I've swapped ports, from 4 to 2, but hub hasn't recognised this, and TV not connected. TV is a Sony android TV, nothing on Sony forums about this. Anyone any ideas... Only thing I could possibly try is putty the hub 1 back on the network, ask don't actually recall it happening with the hub 1,but i may be mistaken.... An excerpt from LAN logs, and there is much more of this seen....

It's also still got lease time left, it's set to 5 days, and currently connected to port 2,but router has failed to recognise this

@penfold

Have you tried a different Ethernet lead?

Re: BT business hub 6

No. Didn't think of this, as I got 3 all brand new when I swapped from hub 1 to hub 6. 1 goes to sky q, 1 to a powerline adapter, the other to the TV. They are all 3m cat6 cables. Will try the cable originally connected. Is it possible the TV doesn't like Cat 6

Re: BT business hub 6

Changed ethernet cable. TV was off when changed. On starting the TV, router still thinks it's connected to port 4 when it's actually connected to port 2. Restarting the TV had no effect. Rebooted router, everything ok again.

It's odd that all other devices on ethernet work, which rather points to the TV, but I would have thought restarting TV would have cured that. Anyhow will see what happens over the next couple of days, if same thing happens,I'll temporary swap back to the hubq, which I am sure didn't have this issue, but not 100%sure, but it was connected by ethernet to the hub 1.

Re: BT business hub 6

I suspect it's a DHCP lease renew problem. To prove it, you could try giving the TV a static IP. Assuming the Hub 2 is using defaults, then use an IP address in the range 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.63 , subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.254

Re: BT business hub 6

@MisterW

Thanks for the thoughts. Its a BT business hub 6, that appears to be playing up, replaced the Hub 1, due to poor wireless performance.

It is however using the default DHCP assignments.

I did try this when it had failed once, and I was getting the Ethernet not connected message, but it didnt work, which I assume was due to the fact the BT hub still thought a device with the same MAC was still active???.  I will try if it fails again, once the router has been rebooted.

Odd that no other device on ethernet has this issue. The TV is in standby when not used, Sky boxes go into a deep sleep during the night, and the powerline adapter is switched off when not being used.

I will keep the thread updated.
