Mine’s using 10 characters quite happily.

Indeed.

Throughout the entire pre-launch development of the device, I have used Wi-Fi passwords < 14 characters and not once have I encountered a problem. That's across countless factory resets, different units and multiple firmware builds Huh

Edit: No mixed case, or special characters either.

Oops, mea culpa - sorry folks for confusing the issue.

I misinterpreted this:

as meaning that I could either <Accept> that the key had been rejected and start from scratch later, or <Retry>.

I kept opting for <Retry>, therefore going round in circles and concluding, erroneously, that 10 characters would never work.

 

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine
