Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

Hello, I have a Fibre 500MB connection, and it gives good speed on a few mobile and laptop devices at home.

Surprisingly, I get extremely slow speed on my HP Windows 11 laptop purchased from Dubai, which was working fine over there but I'm not sure whats the issue when it connects with Plusnet WIFI. Tried to change bands through online configuration link but nothing is working and even the drivers are updated in my laptop which supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz

Can anyone suggest what to do? Do I need to change the Hub 2 modem provided by plusnet?

Thanks a ton in advance

I may be wildly off the mark here - and I'm sure someone will correct me - but I suspect the machine purgased i Dubai, rather than anything to do with your router, is the culprit here.

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

@abhineetk is the laptop connecting to the 5ghz band ? You should be able to see from the Hub2 devices page

What model is the Wireless NIC in the laptop ?

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

Following from @MisterW , above, what speeds do you get when connecting the laptop to the Hub by Ethernet?

@Baldrick1 I think this would be better Tech Help if you want to move it somewhere useful - it is not the Hub that is at fault.

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

This laptop was working fine for around 2 years in Dubai on similar broadband fibre connection but causing issue in the UK network, looks some software driver changes required but not sure

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

@MisterW It shows connected to 2.4 GHz via WIFI and speed is <10 MBPS

If connecting via Ethernet Cable then it is giving good speed >200 MBPS

Other details mentioned below for refernece:

MAC address:

F8:89:D2:20:72:29

Connection type:

Wireless

Address assignment:

DHCP

Wireless Option
Dual band: No

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

@abhineetk Tat response to @MisterW doesn't answer his question, and if you are supposedly on a 500Mb connection, 200mb/s on a wired connection suggests, as I said above, the issue is your machine.

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

Sometimes it automatically connect with 5 GHz then speed is comparatively higher like >50 MBPS but then again connects to 2.4 GHz giving much slow <10 MBPS speed

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

@abhineetk

It shows connected to 2.4 GHz via WIFI and speed is <10 MBPS

Well that's the first problem, understanding why its not connecting to the 5ghz band.

Check the 'Preferred band' setting in the Advanced properties of the Wireless NIC. Make sure its set to 'prefer 5ghz'

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

@jab1 I mentioned this is a new machine and working perfectly fine in other regions giving more than 1 GBPS speed consistently, it looks more of software configuration. Might be possible that a new modem or router with better dual band configuration might help.

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

The Hub 2 is perfectly capable of delivering  1Gb on a wired connection and up to around 450Mb on a wireless connection on the 5ghz band

Re: Differential speed on laptop purchased from Dubai

This 2 year old machine is probably designed for use in Dubai and similar regions - which are not the same as the UK.
