Hi Andy, 

I'm really sorry to see you're still having connection issues while trying to work. 

Testing your line's showing a bridge tap which is generally a wiring issue so I'd like to arrange an engineer from Qube (working on behalf of BT) to investigate further and provide a new master socket.

Could you reply to the ticket 219682611 with two or three timeslots when you'll be available for a visit? These engineers will be available in 2 hour timeslots any day, starting from 8am and finishing at 6pm. For example 8am while 10am, 10am while 12pm, 12pm while 2pm and so forth until 6pm.

If you can post back once you've responded, I'll make sure we book the engineer as soon as we can.

Also, I can see you've had your router from us for a while, so it may be a potential cause.

Would you be happy if I replaced it for you?

Hello, thank you for the response. I have replied back to the ticket requesting an engineer visit for Wednesday morning. Can you also please send me a new router. Thank you.

 

N.B. To avoid any confusion, the router is now NOT plugged directly into the downstairs master socket test or master socket, it made no difference and it is now back upstairs in our lounge on our computer desk. Re-read older posts for date/time, thank you.

@andyt1970 I am personally convinced that the Qube engineer will be able to fix your fault - I still think it is somewhere in the BT/OR infrastructure - but I would be pleased if they could resolve the issue.

The fact that the issue persisted whilst you were in the test socket kind of bears that out - to me.

A new Hub is always a good idea, though. 😀

Hi Andy, I've booked the engineer and updated the ticket with the appointment details as well as sending you a new router. 

I suspect your extension sockets may be star-wired, which might be causing the bridge tap.

Unless the engineer can rewire them, they may just fit a new faceplate to the master socket to isolate the suspect wiring from the broadband line, so you may have to use the master socket moving forward. 

More often than not, when star-wiring is involved, the test socket doesn't work in the same way and doesn't rule things out. 

We'll see what the engineer finds. Let us know how it goes.

So long as it is fully updated, it should perform as well as your current equipment. Do you have any siignal distribution problems at the moment?

I'm not convinced the router itself can't hold a stable connection.

If your router is causing the issue, then it's likely it's developed a fault so one of the same model should resolve.

So, guy came this morning and looked at my setup, took lots of photos on his phone of router etc and used my "Plusnet router card" from back of it - without asking - to access the router admin settings and logged on using his laptop, no idea what he did. (Sure he took a photo of this which also has my wi-fi password on). Also reset the router pushing pin into the hole, ran a speedtest and put in a new Openreach Master Socket 5C. Came back up, restarted router (I think, was trying to stay my distance), and ran speedtest again showing it had gone up with the new socket. Said there was nothing else they could do as getting fast speeds (as advertised) and wi-fi was working.

Well, it's dropped a few times again since he went. Just hoping installing the new router tonight will do the trick, but I really doubt it.

Wasn't happy he had access to my router and passwords (which I have since changed), and didn't think he did much other than put new master socket on. Explained I could have it moved upstairs into lounge but Openreach would charge £150 for the pleasure.

Typing this as logged out of my work software when the connection dropped, nothings changed so far...

Thanks for getting back to us Andy.

I'm really sorry to see the Qube engineer wasn't able to resolve the issue.

I'd like to arrange another Openreach engineer, because we're still detecting a bridge tap on our testing. Once we've booked the engineer, I'll then escalate this with our suppliers to try to get a senior multiskilled engineer assigned to the job. 

Would you be able to reply back to the ticket Here with your availability when you'll be free for a further visit? If you can post back here to let me know once you've responded to the ticket, I'll make sure we book the engineer and escalate.

Appreciate the inconvenience this causes, especially when you're trying to work from home. 

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Took day off work as it's my girlfriend's birthday, put works laptop on at 8.30am as I needed to send a report, then shut down and went out. Came back at lunch AND NOW MY LANDLINE IS TOTALLY DEAD and therefore no wi-fi and broadband. That's our family birthday party ruined as we can't use YouTube or anything. Rang Plusnet support who logged fault, ran line test and confirmed there is a fault and said someone will investigate, no need to come to our flat as it's external. There is some BT box on landing of our block of flats (we live above shops) and there are wires loose / poking out if bottom. Explained to Rank about this and I want an engineer to knock here so I can show him this junction box which must supply phone lines to these flats but seemed reluctant to note this and kept saying their engineers can and will be able to trace the fault. They need to see this alarm sized box with wires exposed. So now having to type this using my data on Plusnet mobile. No idea when this will be fixed but I need to work from home tomorrow and need working broadband and landline. I guess as Ranj has already logged fault you don't need to send engineer to our flat as mentioned above? Girlfriend and son home from school soon so won't be able to keep checking for replies as trying to have birthday party and not going to keep checking back on here. Just unbelievable. I was given this reference TR0000014247348 by Ranj. Sorry if I shouldn't post that on here? Got to go. I, we NEED a working landline and broadband. Please can BT Openreach check this junction box on wall outside the first flat on the landing of our flats.

...and could this bridge you keep mentioning be to do with this BT junction box on wall outside first flat? It can't be us as he fitted new master socket yesterday dinner. Got to go Sad
