Friend accidentally DDoSes me when joining my game via port forwarding

I enabled port forwarding as normal and hosted my Minecraft world on LAN so a friend can join me. (I am aware that there is a better way to host servers, this was just a temporary thing).

When my friend joined, my internet went down for several minutes. This was at night so I figured there was a scheduled reset at a very unlucky time, so I had my friend attempt to join me again once the internet came back. Unfortunately, that's when I realised that my friend joining my LAN via port forwarding is the reason the internet went down, as it happened again.

Some details about the game I was running:

- Minecraft modpack called SevTech: Ages

- Minecraft version 1.12.2

Minecraft is infamous for its horrendous packet handling in large modpacks, but beyond that, I don't know what else to do.

If this is of any help, this is a new PC so if there's anything else I need to do besides enabling port forwarding through the hub, please let me know.
