HUB2 Bridge mode - help

Hi all
I have just moved into a new house and had to take Plusnet BB service. The property is only served by an overhead telephone line and the max speed is about 16mb. I have full fibre at my last house.
The HUB2 is set up and works but the WiFi signal has very poor coverage and doesnt get upstairs or into the kitchen from the lounge.
In my last house I had used the Vodaphone hub in modem mode and set up my ASUS RT-AC66U router as the DHPC server and router for LAN and WiFI.
The broadcast radius is excellent and use to get up in the loft room in our last house.
I tried to switch the HUB2 over to bridge mode and connect to factory reset ASUS router and connected it but couldn't seem to even get a LAN signal.
I tried various port connection combinations but never got internet connection even though I enter username and password in ASUS set up
What am I doing wrong?
HUB2 has 3 yellow ports + WAN port - I understand I should not use the WAN
ASUS has 4 yellow ports + a blue port (presume WAN)
I thought its just a case of connecting a LAN cable between any LAN ports.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

@xxredmaxx welcome to the forums
Hub Two light will be pink when in modem mode.
You connect either Lan 1,2 or 3 to the WAN port of the ASUS router.
The ASUS router WAN will need to be setup top make a PPPoE connection using your broadband username and password. No VLAN needs to be set as the Hub two handles that.

@xxredmaxx Welcome to the Community Forum
If the Plusnet hub is set up to bridge mode it should be showing a pink light.
Yes, you use any of the three yellow LAN ports on the Hub 2. The Asus should be set to Router mode and the appropriate port used as per the Asus manual.
Entered in the Asus should be your Plusnet account username in the form <username>@plusdsl.net Note: no spaces. The password, your account password. The connection protocol should be PPPoE. VLAN should be Off.
Edit. @Dan_the_Van types faster than me!

Hi Both
Ok I will try it all again tomorrow (out today) as I'm sure I've followed all of those instructions. So definitely use the WAN port on the ASUS?
In fact I tried all combinations of wired connections between the two components WAN to LAN, LAN to LAN and LAN to WAN but couldnt get internet handshake
The ASUS was used in DHCP mode before but I factory reset it just to be sure.
Anyway thanks for the assistance, so nice to be able to reach out to others for help.
I'll try again tomorrow and see if I have any better outcome and report back
Wondering if my house will ever get upgraded to at least fttc 🙄
I only live 0.7 miles from the exchange lol

Hi again
Writing this using my phone as hotspot as I've got no internet using Asus and bridging mode.
HUB2 is showing pink and ASUS is broadcasting 2.4 & 5ghz wifi.
I can login to router settings and have set user as xxredmaxx@plusdsl.net and account password but no connection to WWW.
I have attached screenshots of settings if anyone can help please. Its set to PPoe
FYI I currently have IPv6 disabled
I dont have Default gateway setting or any DNS settings - do I need something from plusnet?
I am hoping to find a solution here please
Much appreciated

Yes you need a default gateway and dns
Make them both 192.168.1.1 - this assumes this (192.168.1.1) is the IP Address of the ASUS device.
I would reboot a device to see if the change has worked, then all your other devices if it does.

So I still cannot seem to use my router with HUB2 in bridge mode.
I've used different cable and ports to rule them out.
Diagnostics on ASUS state "no modem" which suggests the HUB is not really in bridge mode so does anyone have a test for this apart from the pink light please?
I have checked my username and password by logging into my Plusnet account as I understand they must match and account login is fine.
It could be that my router is not working but everything on the router side appears ok. WiFi is broadcasting on both bands.
I've factory reset the ASUS and run through the new install and still don't see modem.
I've used this router with both Virgin cable and Vodafone fibre.
Could it be that my service is ADSL?
Apart from buying another router to test I am not sure what else to do. Anyone got any suggestions to isolate the issue please?
in my view the problem sits with the HUB2 in bridge mode.
I'd love to solve this with some help.

@xxredmaxx You can test if the Hub2 is in bridge mode by removing the router from the system and connecting a PC directly to one of the LAN ports, then set up a PPPoE internet connection on the PC with the Plusnet username and password information. If that connects the problem must be your router config, but I can't see why it shouldn't work.

Could it be that my service is ADSL?
Ah! Has anyone had the Hub 2 working in bridge mode on ADSL ?
AFAIK the encapsulation for bridge mode on Adsl needs to be LLC rather than VC/MUX. Not sure if it's configurable but if it is , make sure it's set to LLC

Does the fact that the service is ADSL not require to change the WAN Connection Type to PPPoA?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Once the HUB is put into bridge mode there is no further access to configure it or are you referring to the asus router config?
As far as I can see there is no way to configure bridge mode prior to switching it on either.
I presume its hard coded.
I'm beginning to think its ADSL issue and as you said it would be good to know if anyone is running HUB2 in bridge mode with the ADSL line in.

@SpendLessTime I have always used PPPoE connections on previous Plusnet services, albeit on ADSLMax not ADSL2+ but I believe it should be OK with PPPoE
@xxredmaxx If the HUB2 is working OK as a router it should not need any configuration changes, just switching to bridge mode.
Have you tried the direct PC PPPoe connection?
