Correct.  I think it was you that had advised already to change gateway to the router IP address, so I did this a few days ago.   Was just pointing out gateway as stated by the router is different but you then clarified the term gateway can mean different things.

Yes, and I'm afraid it still doesnt connect remotely. I've also tried a totally different viewer app.

Is it worth trying another one of the DDNS providers to get it working that way?

Both port 80 and 4505 are responding to windows test connection (TNC) and MTR using both TCP and UDP parameters, I am wondering...

@salcalvert 

When you are testing remote access from your phone have you disconnected it from your home WiFi, so you are using mobile data? I ask as the screen shots of your phone posted in #53 show both WiFi and Mobile Data connection.

@salcalvert I could be wrong but I don't think it will help. All DDNS does is associate a URL with your public IP. It is used where the public IP may change and thus gives a fixed URL which always 'points' to the current public IP. 

You now have a static IP so your public IP address doesn't change , in addition the URL <youraccount>.plus.com always points to your public IP.

We've established that the port forwarding appears to be Ok, viz connection attempts are accepted. From what I can see it appears that a request for remote access will be reaching the DVR but that the response from the DVR is not getting back to the remote client. Now that the gateway & netmask appear to be correct on the DVR I'm a a bit of a loss to understand what may be causing the problem. 

It would be useful to check that the DVR can access the 'outside world' , can you use the S/W Upgrade function in the System Management to check for internet access. Looking at the manual , you should be able to select Network to check for upgrades, hopefully that will cause the DVR to attempt internet access to check for any new firmware?

That suggests the device hasn't left the local network. Maybe connecting to 212.n.n.n doesn't work on the new  router were it might have done on the old one.

Which port on the Hub 2 is the DVR connected to ? not the Red WAN port I hope ?

Yes Dan, I confirm I've tried connecting externally with WIFI on and off.

Confirm no it isnt connected to the Red WAN socket.  Red WAN goes to the OpenReach box.   DVR is connected via a switch which is connected to router port 3.  All other devices from the switch working as normal and this is the wiring set up from prior to the new router arriving/plusnet switch over.

Being pedantic, what else is connected to the switch and is it possible to eliminate it as a cause, by temporarily connecting the DVR directly to the Hub 2 ?

OTOH is the switch a managed switch ? I'm thinking does it have port mirroring functionality ?

It could be nothing but I don't like the fact it says 'No s/w data' , that could imply it can't contact the server to check...

I did wonder this myself as you asked, I have now plugged DVR into router port 2 directly to eliminate this.  Doesnt appear to be any change.  Confirm I have restarted DVR and no change to options shopwing under system management.

Not sure what port mirroring means.

It's a facility on managed switches ( and some routers ) to copy (mirror) data going in and out of one port to a 2nd port. It then enables that data to be analysed by another machine connected to the mirror port without actually interfering with the original data.

For instance what I would do if I had this sort of problem would be:-

Put my managed switch between the DVR and the Hub 2, mirror the DVR port to another switch port , then connect my laptop to the mirror port and run Wireshark to capture the traffic going to/from the DVR. That way it would be possible to establish exactly what is happening to the attempts to connect remotely to the DVR.

However its not a simple procedure it requires experience of a network analyser such as wireshark and hardware that can mirror ports

yeah I have it., tplink vr2100.  Engineer said it wouldnt work with plusnet fibre, we tried and it didnt.

 

Is it worth me getting a different plusnet fibre-friendly router with improved functionality?
