Hub 2 Upgrade Option

When we transferred our broadband to Plusnet some four years ago I was disappointed with the supplied router (Hub 1) as we experienced many issues. So much so that we borrowed another router from a friend so we could achieve a stable connection. Perhaps we were just unlucky and had a faulty device.

While browsing the Plusnet website recently I discovered that there is a newer model of the router (Hub 2) available which I assume, among other things, has improved Wi-Fi capabilities.

I'm curious if, when we upgraded our Plusnet broadband to Fibre last year, that the Hub 2 should have been offered as an upgrade also?

Thanks for the help.

John

Re: Hub 2 Upgrade Option

@jd8335 welcome to the community

If i recall the option to order a Hub Two was part of the renew process, it required a positive response to a question rather than be automatically supplied. It was free, just paid for P&P.

What the Hub two will give you

1) Only three LAN ports
2) Both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless share the same name (it is not possible to split them)
3) Can be configure to use your preferred public DNS providers (use your own local DNS server like pi-hole)
4) Can be configured to respond to remote ICMP (ping), this allows the use of Thinkbroadband Quality Monitor
5) The option to export event logs and status screen as a csv file, which is useful for fault finding
6) Can be configured to 'bridge mode' (modem only), allows for clean implementation of a mesh system or 3rd party router
7) On/Off front panel light setting

Re: Hub 2 Upgrade Option

Thanks, Dan, that info was very helpful.

We must have missed that option when we upgraded our broadband.

Does anyone know if the router upgrade would still be available?

Thanks.

@jd8335  The only way to find out is to ask Plusnet, they may want you to take out a new contract.

Re: Hub 2 Upgrade Option

@jd8335 Hi there, if you are currently in a contract with us at plusnet, we can dispatch a hub two free of charge. All we ask for is that you pay for the postage & packaging which is £6.99.
However, if you arent currently in a contract with us and would like a hub two, we would have to take a one off charge of £100 and the postage and packaging.

Re: Hub 2 Upgrade Option

@jd8335  £6.99 is about the right price. So if you are still in contract with Plusnet go for that.

£100 is absolutely ridiculous, no way is the router worth that price.

Re: Hub 2 Upgrade Option

Hi, @Windings.

I am currently in a contract with Plusnet so would be happy to pay the £6.99. Can you arrange for the Hub 2 to be delivered?
