Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen you seem like the man who lives up to his name - can he fix it - yes he can!  Like so many others on this thread, I'm having the same issues with my Hub: devices failing to connect, devices dropping etc.  It matches very closely with the technical reports and testing other users have done.  Please could you apply the latest beta firmaware to my Hub One router too? (anytime is fine to apply that, will just be grateful to get this applied and test)

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen

Thanks. Agree -50db is fine, it's just get a large drop off in signal strength even going out if the front room where the router is located. Likely just poor WiFi range. 2.5 ok.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hey @bobpullen can you please push this firmware version to my router? I've spent ages trying to figure out what was going with my WiFi and have finally found this thread tonight! After separating the 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies into different SSIDs it seems that I can connect to 5GHz, just no internet access through it. No probs with any of my devices on 2.4v though. Cheers!

Hi @bobpullen please could you push this firmware version to my router? Like many others I've spent ages trying to figure out what was going with my WiFi and have finally found this thread. I'm getting the same problems with devices connecting to the 5GHz channel but not getting any internet. 2.4GHz works fine. Thanks 🙂

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Please can I add my router to the queue to have this firmware update pushed out?

Had 5ghz turned off since joining about 6 months ago with the whole wireless going down when something tried to connect to it.  2.4ghz works fine but obviously would prefer to have the 5ghz available.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I have a Plusnet Hub One and the Wifi is constantly dropping (The blue light stays on). 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz are split. Youview box over ethernet stays connected to internet.

My router firmware is Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.259

How do I get my firmware updated to the latest version.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Tried all above and lots of other things using the help etc. I've unplugged and switched off hub and switched/logged on.
Everything reported as connected and fully paid up although "No internet" message on TV for Apps and for my mobile phone.
Cannot get through to Plusnet Support so hoping someone here can help.
I have Hub One. Devices Freeview box, mobile phone and unplugged Echo Dot which I will leave unplugged in case this has caused conflict. Home phone and 'terrestrial' tv working ok.
Connection ok - No Internet.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Are any of your devices connected with a wired connection?

If yes are they working OK?

If no can you connect any by a wired connection?

If wired connections work there are instructions at the start of the tread about splitting 2.4GHz and 5Ghz and possibly disabling 5GHz WiFi, which should give you a usable, if sub-optimal, connection.

If wired connections don't work...  Does any one else have any ideas?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Like so many others on this thread, I'm having the same issues with my Hub.  It mirrors the posts people have been making and what is being reported.   Please could you apply the latest beta firmware to my Hub One router too? (anytime is fine and I'm happy to be a guinea pig).

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi Dr D
The Freeview box is connected by wire.
I also followed the post concerning disabling 5gw...
Did not work
Thanks

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen Okay, some 3 weeks (24 days, actually) after updating of firmware and no resets or issues, today I noticed a slowish / intermittent(?) connection (speedtest suggested 18Mbps but it was causing HD video streaming judder) on the 5GHz band wifi. 2.4GHz was still functioning at consistent full speed (about 37Mbps here). I cross checked several times and the results were consistent, so almost certainly valid and not the result of local congestion.

I first tried simply turning off and on the 5GHz wifi signal but that made no difference.

A soft reboot of the hub (via the network interface, not powering off & on) and the 5GHz band is back up to full speed and handling HD streaming fine.

No changes in hardware or general usage pattern here and there are still only 3 devices able to access the 5GHz band. So maybe the firmware fix isn't a fix, just mitigates some issues?

Thanks for your attention to this problem!

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I have kept out of this for some time.

Isn't it getting rather silly. Is there a problem? So once more I ask these questions.

Why did BT drop the hub5 which emerged as the hub1?

Was a firmware update done earlier in the year?

And if such an update did happen, why?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Thanks @bobpullen for the router update...the signal has almost completely disappeared from the top of our house now (where our studio is where we're working from home) and still getting a lot of connection dropping. What can we do?! Our internet was totally fine until we upgraded our broadband and received this router  - I don't know what or why we're paying for this?!

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@lucylucylucy We bought https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/networking/network-routers-and-switches/routers/... easy to set up.  Annoying to have to buy one but many of the ISP's have poor routers.  So at least we have a decent one now.  No problems since we pluged that one in.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen Much to my surprise, the slowing 5GHz wifi has recurred this afternoon, and that's after a brief power cut and hence forced hub reset a couple of hours ago. I've now disabled the 5GHz band again and reverted to 2.4GHz only.

I really do find it odd that the problem can arise again so quickly after the previous run of 3 weeks plus since the firmware update. I can see it's possible for a 'temp' file of some kind (or something like that) to become too large, overflow into RAM and cause issues, but it shouldn't be able to corrupt firmware.  But then, it's been many years since I've worked on this kind of equipment and I guess there's a lot I wouldn't understand now and maybe there's actually an age or usage related hardware problem of some kind.

(Little EMC voice in my head whispers that maybe the 5GHz signal itself is getting back into the hub circuitry and causing strange things to happen... And that could be affected by aerial positioning and hub placement.)
