This particular 5GHz issue seems to have started with firmware ending .259. The build you have (.273) reverts a lot of the Wi-Fi elements to the state they were in before the advent of .259 (whilst retaining some of the newer stuff).

Thanks, this is useful information and makes more sense.

As much as I like to wake up one morning with all the bugs ironed out, don't you think PN should ask customers if they want an update, instead of pushing it without their knowledge? Or maybe adopt the recent Microsoft policy of several customer tiers, with some getting updates earlier than others, allowing for troubleshooting (theoretically) before mass distribution?

Will be in tomorrow's post. Can't guarantee it will help with the noise but it might. Let me know when it turns up and I'll re-flash the .273 firmware.

This has just arrived, thanks for sending it quickly.

Currently having laptops wired in because even the 2.4GHz is failing too often, so quite eager to swap. I'll let you know when I've installed it (I'm waiting for some downtime at work).

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi @bobpullen we have just changed to Plusnet and seem to have this issue. I have just rebooted the router which has worked for now.

We have the Plusnet Hub One .263 software version- it looks from some of the recent posts as if there is now a fix for this? How can we get the latest update?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi @bobpullen , me too. Our router is still on the firmware version from last March although the router home page says last update unknown. Do we still need to wait for the new version to be pushed out or is there something I can do from this end?

Thank you

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I'm also suffering from this issue. The firmware version is .263 even after rebooting the router. Can you push .273 to my router? Or is there something else I need to do?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen I had made it to 22 days without having WiFi difficulties (version 4.7.5.1.83.8.281) however i had noticed that the speed over 5Ghz wifi had roughly halved in that time. (multiple checks over past 24 hours all showed similar results).
I tried to reboot routerto fix this issue and then had no wifi at all, everything came back up but no 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. (With cable could see everything and access internet fine)

Second restart and back to normal and speeds back up to normal.

Very odd behaviour, but I did not experience the previous issues at all within that time on any device. (still not perfect but seems like progress)
Many thanks

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen, could you please also push the upgrade to my router?

It is currently running Plusnet Hub One | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 and it behaves similarly to what is described in this thread.

I have 2.4 and 5 GHz under different SSIDs, and speed on 5 GHz very noticeably degrades with time. The other odd thing about the router is that it works after reboot only if powered down and then powered back up. It never establishes DSL connection if I use web management or reboot button on the back.

Thanks in advance

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi  @bobpullen, need help as well.

My 5G wireless connection keeps dropping / freezing every 1-3 days. The only workaround I have is to power-down the router and restart it again. This cures the 5G connectivity issue until it freezes again after 1-3 days. I have separated both the 2.4G & 5G SSIDs early in January 2020 - this helped a little, but the problem got worst and worst - so now I have to reboot the router every 1-3 days!

The router firmware is:
Plusnet Hub One | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 | Last updated 18/02/19

Serial number: +081441+NQ64412724

MAC Address: 24:20:c7:52:15:20

@bobpullen, can you please update the router's firmware to the latest version remotely. I have reported this to Plusnet Support on the 2nd June 202 - but PN Support keeps telling me that it is currently downloading the latest version of the firmware. But it been doing this for the last 6 days since I've restarted the router on the 31st May 2020? Is this normal behaviour?

The other thing I have noticed is that the router still has not updated it's firmware version (no DOWNLOAD commands issued yet via TR069 sessions) since being online for 6 days. Take a look at the log files on the router - there appears to be some TR069 session failures:

Do I have a faulty Hub One router or it is confused? Any help will be appreciated in getting my issues resolved. Thank you in advance, @bobpullen.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I seem to lost my previous reply to this thread - can't see it anywhere?

Hi @bobpullen, the same issue here. Need some help in resolving it.

I have separated the 2.4G & 5G SSIDs back in January 2020, which helped a lot. Now it has got so bad that I need to restart the router every 1-3 day. I have no devices connected to the 5G connection as that stop working about 3 days - still waiting for the firmware to download to the router. Why is it taking so long?

Serial number: +081441+NQ64412724

MAC Address: 24:20:c7:52:15:20

Can you please update the router's firmware to the latest version remotely as this could fix my 5G connectivity issues.

The Hub One router has been connected since 10:19pm, 31st May 2020 :

Time and date Message

Also, I have noticed that the router still has not updated it's firmware version (no DOWNLOAD commands issued yet via TR069 sessions) since being online for 6 days - is this normal? Do I perhaps have a faulty router? Take a look at the log files on the router - there appears to be some TR069 session failures:

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi, I'm having the actual same exact issues since January 2020.

My 5G wireless connection keeps dropping / freezing every 1-3 days. The only workaround I have is to power-down the router and restart it again. This cures the 5G connectivity issue until it freezes again after 1-3 days.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

More to add:

My 5G wireless connect is now not working at all (for the last 3 days). No devices will connect to it. All my devices are connected via the 2.4G wireless connection instead.

The Hub One router has been connected since 10:19pm, 31st May 2020 since the last reboot. I have spoken to Support - they have informed me that it is downloading the latest firmware onto the router - then why is it taking so long? The router have been online for 6 days! Do I have a faulty router? If I do, can I be sent a replacement router please?

I have noticed that the router still has not updated it's firmware version (no DOWNLOAD commands issued yet via TR069 sessions) since being online for 6 days. Take a look at the log files on the router - there appears to be some TR069 session failures.

@bobpullen, can you please check that I am on your management platform and registered correctly to receive updates to my router?

Again, thank you in advance.

Could it be plausable the reason I had issues with .281 firmware was because it was several days after it was pushed to my router before the router was rebooted to apply .281 firmware. Could it have become corrupted? I will try .281 firmware again and roboot the router straight away if you want me to test it again?

Thanks for the continued feedback. We've enough examples of problems on .281 to reinforce the belief that it causes problems. If may be worth us revisiting .280 from a diagnostic standpoint, but it can't be considered as a prospective solution to the issue because it re-introduces a nasty bug that causes the whole device to crash in the presence of certain legacy Kindle devices.

@paul_edwin wrote:

Only issue I've noticed so far: on my MacBook Pro (connected via wi-fi), going to Advanced Settings > Home Network seems to trigger a reboot of the router, every time. It works fine from my MacBook Air (connected via Powerline ethernet).

If you need more info on that, or want me to try anything else, let me know.

That definitely shouldn't happen. What model MacBook Pro and what version of MacOS?

@sdav wrote:

@bobpullen has the Tx power been turned down on the 5GHz transceiver by the .273 SW update or has other changes that would affect the range been made?

Nope, no changes to power output that I'm aware of.

It's unlikely that .273 will be deployed en masse. It's a retrograde step, and there are other considerations I don't really want to go into that make waiting for a formal maintenance release the better option. We're aiming for a newer build that will fix both this issue and others that are on the current backlog. .273 is a pre-release build for mitigation purposes and people should not be requesting it unless they are experiencing the issues described in the opening post. Nobody should be expecting this build to be automatically pushed to them.

The throughput observation is being discussed in another thread. Interesting that the .281 build has been stable for you as we know others have continued to experience issues with this build.
