Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

If I was @bobpullen I’d have quit a long time before now. Let’s face it, he’s the one reason Plusnet isn’t being taken to trading standards. Let’s hope he’s still there. But also, #FreeBobPullen

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I have formally written to PlusNet today to ask them to refund me the cost of purchasing a 3rd party router, namely a BT Smart Hub 2 Locked To BT Internet AC Wireless Dual Band Router DSL Modem for the sum of £54.98.

The issue for me now is that some of the responses on here suggest 'what do you expect for the money...' and 'PlusNet don't need to supply a router with working WiFi...' Well, let me quote;

The Sale of Goods Act states that goods delivered or sold must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Fit for purpose means that the goods will provide the benefit or meet the purpose advertised by the seller.

Goods sold must also be as described – that is they should match the product shown at the time of selling or they must meet the specifications and description provided in any brochure.

If any of these criteria are not met, then the customer can claim against the retailer (rather than the manufacturer) for breach of contract.

The attachment is a screen grab of the PlusNet website which states that they supply a WiFi router.

I have given PlusNet the required 28 days notice of intention to start action for recovery of the cost of the replacement hub. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

@bobpullen

New plusnet customer

split 5 and 2.4g wifi for compatibility with old devices with different sidds

intermittent drop outs of 5ghz wifi on laptop and iPad and iphone .  Wifi connected but either very very slow or non responsive.(google speed test shows connection but v v v low speeds)

reset of router fixes.  Also Switching wifi from 5 to 2.4 and back to 5 works to reset wifi connection and works.

other devices function at full speed whist problem devices not working.(google speedtest checked)

Seems to happen when devices reconnect say after over night not being used.

could i get a firmware update pushed if that is likely to help?

I assume you can see my plusnet used id in the systems (redacted out below as not sure this should be on the forum?)

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi

Similar issues, no need to rehearse them.

Request for new firmware please. What do I need to provide?

If it is still @bobpullen then this is to tag him.

Thanks.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

I've been Googling this issue ever since I started having problems with my phone connecting to my new router, and I'm kind of horrified that it's still an issue after such a long time. Why hasn't this firmware update, that supposedly fixes everything, been rolled out to everyone? Why is it left to some kind soul on the forums to do it?

That said, if this firmware update is still available @bobpullen, then please my I have it too?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

As an experiment, I turned the wifi off on the router and set an old router up as the wifi base (only - everything else, including dhcp still running on the PlusNet router). And suddenly the wifi network seems to be stable again.

PlusNet, please sort this issue out.

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Come on @bobpullen. Let us know you are still there.

Have plusnet kidnapped you and put you in the cellar with all the hub one routers as you keep winning employee of the month for helping plusnet users?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Hi

I understand there is a firmware upgrade that may fix this

About a week - 10 days ago we started to get short drops (5 or 6 Seconds) when using skype or zoom and occasionally not finding a web page when it exists.

We have 2 laptops and an android phone attached by wireless 2.4 GHZ and a pc and printer attached by cable the cabled devices still work

Plusnet Hub One | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 | Last updated 25/03/19

Still happens after reboot

I tried switching off the 5GHZ rwireless - made no difference

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

HI @bobpullen I've also noticed the same issue with my 5GHZ. Drops to 20mb, 2.4GHZ seems fine at the expected speeds.

My router is this software version: 4.7.5.1.83.8.263.

Any chance I could get the new update?

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Well, thanks to the moderator who said, what do you expect for the money, and, Plusnet are only obliged to provide a service to the property and they have no contractual requirement to provide wireless, and, if you don't like the Plusnet router then buy another. Well, I took that as an affront so I copied the page where Plusnet states 'wireless router' and I quoted 'as described', 'of suitable quality' and 'fit for purpose' and I sent Plusnet the invoice for a new BT and they refunded me for the router and postage - I got the cheque this morning. Thank you

Re: Hub One - 5GHz WiFi issue

Have just spoken to the PN help desk. Apparently they are unable to force an individual software update as to quote “ they are pushing out 30000 a night”.  Now this is fine, but it does not prioritise those of us who are experiencing and reporting major issues, so I hope @bobpullen is still able to push out the updates on a selective basis?
