Hub router 2 received, extended contract now worried how im going to set it all up.

hi all, i ordered the hub 2 and the reviews were it was slightly better performance and range,  if i disconnect my old router and start this one, i have lots of things such as hikvision cctv which i have then try to set up to work on the router, im assuming there is no easy way to do this,  im sure i read before someone the name to match the old router and everything work,  maybe im simplyfying it,  the hikvision is my worry because im sure many years ago, i had to set up port forwarding and pay for a static ip address

is there anyway or its set it up then go around and change everything to connect to the new router.  I have the linksys mesh system which one tower plugs into the back of the router

thanks

@robbp

What I think you may be referring to is that if you set your new Hub2 with the same WiFi SSID and WiFi password as your existing router, then your devices should treat the Hub2 as if it is the old router and work properly without reconnecting every device individually to the new router.

Note that most devices will automatically reconnect to the new Hub, some might need their WiFi turned off and then on again to pick u the hub, and a very few might need rebooting.

If you have paid Plusnet for a Static IP address, then AFAIK, that is fixed on your line and the new Hub2 will pick it up when you first connect it up.

I don't know about port forwarding - but would assume that you can just copy the various settings from the old hub to the new one. What I would try is taking some screenshots of the relevant pages on the old router's GUI before disconnecting it, and then putting the same settings in to the Hub2's GUI.

thanks, yes thats what I mean't,  i have philips hue and ring which isnt so much a issue other than just setting up it was the hikvision,  but good idea on the screenshot on the old router,  i think i will give it a go on saturday.   not totally sure yet how to change the name of the router, the password i think is the easy bit.  maybe the setting for both are in the the same screen.

thanks

"not totally sure yet how to change the name of the router, the password i think is the easy bit.  maybe the setting for both are in the the same screen. "

To access the Hub2's GUI, type 192.168.1.254 in to a web browser's address bar.

Navigate to Home > Advanced Settings > Wireless and both the "Network Name" (aka the SSID), and the "Security Password" (ie the WiFi password - not the Hub's Admin password), can be changed there. Don't forget to save the changes!

Port Forwarding settings are at Home > Advanced Settings > Firewall
