I think my router is dying :(

I think my router is dying. It's been cutting out/needing reset more and more frequently, and the little orange wifi light is almost constantly flashing. I'm not not able to even watch a short YouTube video or load a page reliably without having to get up and reset it.

I've had it for years, and I've seen on here that I can get a new one when I renew my contract, the sticky part is that I have over a year left on it and I'm pretty sure the router won't make it that long. Is there a way to get this replaced? I also work from home so this is becoming a big challenge!

@IrnBru32 Which router is it, and how long have you had it? To be honest, from your description , it sounds more like a network fault, rather than anything to do with the router itself.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

It's a Plusnet router I guess 🙃

I've had it for 6 years at this point. I already tried texting Plusnet to get them to test the line so I know it's not that.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

It will be a PN router - but which one - from this page: https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/ ?

What did the results of PN's 'tests' say?

Re: I think my router is dying :(

Ah, that would be a Hub One router then.

The text I got:

"The line from the network to your home appears to be performing well, so next we need to refresh your connection to the hub."

So I've also asked it to do that. I've also asked for someone to call me, but I'm guessing the queue must be pretty large and in the mean time I found this forum.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

When did you get that response? Can you also provide a screenshot of this page from your router:

Hub One - Troubleshooting - Helpdesk.png

But obscure your 'username' - line 12

Re: I think my router is dying :(

Sorry, it keeps timing me out and I'm not able to get into the page. I've tried switching off/on and am getting the same result. The poor little thing's also a wee bit warm if that helps?

Re: I think my router is dying :(

When you say a 'wee bit warm' - how warm? Timing you out - how?

Sorry for all the questions, but we can only go on what you can tell/show us.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

No worries mate, sorry I'm not very good at this.

Whenever I try going into the router settings I will get so far, then I won't be able to click across to the option I need because it will sit "loading" for about 30 seconds then I get an error message "your connection was interrupted".

By warm, it's warm to the touch.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

Hang on, this is another error message:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.1.254 took too long to respond.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

This is when I am trying to get to the screen you showed me @jab1

Re: I think my router is dying :(

It could, then, be a failing Hub - I've never had a PN Hub, so don't know how 'warm' they get, but if you can't access the data, that does sound a little strange

Have you tried calling PN?

Re: I think my router is dying :(

Thanks for that screenshot - you should never get that when trying to access the Hub data.

@MisterW  - sorry to disturb your Saturday afternoon, but have you any thoughts?

Re: I think my router is dying :(

Been trying to get hold of them all day. I think I am in some sort of queue since you have to send them a text asking for a call.

Re: I think my router is dying :(

I don't think you are in a queue as such - they don't operate a 'queueing' system as such. Unfortunately, you have chosen the weekend to report this, and support is somewhat 'lacking' at this time.

I'd go along with that...
