Issue with router password affecting TP link Deco mesh setup

Hi,

 

I have looked through the boards and cannot find the answer I need.

 

I have basic fibre and am looking to use Deco X10s in a mesh network to extend my wifi.

 

I have gone through the setup process for the initial X10 - connecting to the LAN port of the hub 2, then following the setup guide to include PPoE. 

 

Where things go wrong is when I go to enter the username and password for the DDoE settings. As far as I understand, this is for your online Myaccount password so for example yourusername@plusdsl.net and then the password. Thats fine in theory, however, this is not working. I've noticed in my router account, under advanced settings for broadband, my username keeps going back to default setup@plusdsl.net.... this is expected on reset. However, I can update to my username, (disconnect, save, reconnect) but for love nor money, the password will not change. It will always show the 8 digit default password.

I have tried resetting the admin password for the router which updates, but then the password on the advanced settings will not change. I have even tried as some suggested doing this on a different browser and different device to avoid caching but still no dice.

The above may be a mute point as im trying to trouble shoot the DDoE part - does the above in the router advanced settings for broadband need to correspond with my online account details im giving the x10 for the DDoE settings or not? If not great, but then I'm not sure why its not able to set up. 

Every time it fails I have to reset the router, reset my email from the default and reset the x10 Deco, so its getting quite convoluted and tiresome. Any tips much appreciated.

@paul_fibre  Welcome to the Plusnet Community 

I assume that you are a new customer? Setup@plusdsl.net indicates that your account is not yet fully activated. This can take up to midnight on the day your service goes live. Try factory reset of the hub by pushing a paperclip or similar in the reset hole. Hold the switch closed until you get a green light. This might kick it into life.
In answer to your Deco question, once the service is activated you should either configure the Hub 2 in Bridge mode, connect it to the Deco using any of the LAN ports, do not use the WAN port or leave the hub as is and configure the Deco in Access Point mode.

With the first option you need to add your Plusnet credentials to the Deco. With the second, you use the hubs settings once the service is active ants it has automatically configured .

Hi,

Im not sure I understand - ive been on plusnet broadband for over two weeks so not sure why its showing as not yet fully activated, is that something that has triggered as I have done a factory reset each time ive had issues?

 

I have also tried bridge mode but it wasnt liking that - will try it again to rule it out.

The router never shows the actual password.

Somehow your account seems to have deactivated and/or was never originally activated correctly..

Try texting HELP to 07800008121. Failing that you will need to ring in.  0330 1239 123

Posts have crossed. Forgetting the deco for a bit, can you switch the hub on and it self configures and works? I understood from earlier posts that it was reverting to setup@plusdsl.net.

Hi thanks for the response, true - it doesn't show the password but it does show an 8 dots to match a password which in theory matches the default. Mine is longer but it only shows 8.... maybe the default is 8 but could be it represents something longer - either way I try the "my account" password or the default for PPoE but it doesnt work.

 

I will try the bridge suggestion.

Sure, so yes it works and switches on, broadband is fine - albeit patchy in my house, yes it reverts to the above when I factory reset, I then have to change it back to me (previously it was resetting to someone else's account so the default is now a welcome bonus). So that piece is all good, however I'm stuck not knowing if the password is the default one or my one for the deco setup.

In that case your account is not configured correctly, it sounds like the serial number of your hub has not been correctly input into the Plusnet management system.

The password that you must enter to get on line is your Plusnet account password, not the hub or Deco admin password.

Fix

If you're going to use the Hub two in bridge mode it will not matter if it registered or not on the management system as the Hub two is outside of system and will not be contacting the TR069 system when it starts, as would be the case if your are using a combine DSL/router device

With the Hub Two in bridge mode the light with be a pink colour, connect a LAN port you chosen WAN port on the X10.

You should be able to configure the PPPoE connection using the Tethering app or via a web browser.

thanks - seems bridging mode worked and now my mesh is set up; I think before it wasn't saving the change password/bridging mode changes and so kept reverting but seemed to work this time just with changing one thing in the settings rather than two things. Incidentally and for any one else having the issue - The user account email and password worked for PPoE regardless of what was in the advanced settings for the broadband username/password. Can close off this post.
