I had an electrician come round, and he said that changing to a "modern" consumer unit with RCD's and MCBs would trigger a requirement to bring the whole house up to modern regulations and require a complete rewire of the whole place.
What total rubbish! Try a different electrician.

you are not by any vacancy plugging any of the Powerline into an extension lead? These can cause problems and if it is a filtered extension then they almost certainly will not work.

@Dan_the_Van Sorry but I did say it is powerline \LEDs that are not showing. All power LED are functioning. I am interested in what you term as Powerline Device key which is a new concept to me. My kit is quite old.

Just to close this bit off - I have just contacted another electrician, and as you say, what I was previously told was indeed "total rubbish".
Eletrician 2 is coming round next week to give me a price - but I already know that due to the latest regulations, it won't be cheap.
Thanks for the prompt to re-investigate.

I am referring to the password found below the mains plug pins, it is in the format
ABCD-EFGH-IJKL-MNOP
I use it to add the device to the tp-link powerline app
