Plus One Hub light stuck on green

Hello everyone!

My 8-year-old Hub One won't show anything but a solid green light and does not set up any WiFi or Ehternet connections, despite an attempted factory reset, powering off etc.  I think I know the answer to this question, but is it destined for the great e-waste pile in the sky or is there something else I can try to bring it back to life?

Thanks

Des Weller

Re: Plus One Hub light stuck on green

Hello Des,

A warm welcome to the forums.

Check you router lights

Your router lights can tell you a great deal about what is happening when things are not as they should be. The colour of the lights and their state will tell you all you need to know ... if only you could find the help sheet which came with the router. That information can also be found in the depths of the on-line help & support guides. The following links make the material easier to find.

Steady green or flashing green?

There is no specific explanation for stuck on green, but it might be inferred that it has stalled in the boot-up sequence ... but not got far enough to turn read.  A failure of the PSU could be a possibility - do you have another compatible PSU from another router?

Re: Plus One Hub light stuck on green

Thanks Townman

It was stuck on a steady green, which isn't captured in the manual as such.  As you say, it suggests a failure to complete boot up.  However, I left the power off it over night and tried it again this morning and it's come back to life.

I think I'll start looking for a replacement nonetheless...

ETA: Yesterday's factory reset obviously didn't trigger anything either.  I was expecting to have to enter my login details before the hub would reconnect, but apparently not.

@desweller

If the Hub One was supplied on your account it picks up the account credentials as part of the start up sequence.

At contract renewal it is possible to get a new Hub Two for a postage charge.

If you phone up, on the assumption you haven't had a new router recently, I expect you would be offered a replacement (perhaps with a postage charge) since yours seems faulty.

I am the satisfied customer....

Re: Plus One Hub light stuck on green

Restarted after a power off?

Powered off where? At the power socket or the router off / on switch?

This hints at a possible overheat issue: if the latter of the above then it is the router, check the vents for dust collection. If the former then alternatively it could the the PSU that’s cooking. Check to see if that is overly warm. If it’s hot, stop using it, less it becomes a fire risk.
