Plusnet Hub 2 randomly changes WiFi device icons

I've been using the HUB2 for some time and often notice that the WiFi device ICONS keep changing for no reason.

For example a Smart Phone icon becomes a Computer Icon, a Camera icon becomes a USB icon......

I've double checked that after I've set the icons for each device I make sure I've Saved Changes and seen the new icon on the devices listing.

Any ideas?

thanks

Dave

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 randomly changes WiFi device icons

Has the MAC address of the smart phone changed?   I understand that some smart phones will change their MAC address as a security feature (Apple iPhone for eaxample.)  If the MAC address changes the router will not recognise it as the same device and give it a default icon.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 randomly changes WiFi device icons

Thanks for the prompt reply.

No the MAC address hasn't changed for these devices where the Icons have randomly changed.

I was aware of the MAC address of the iPhones changing because I was worried about an "unknown" device which was handling a large amount of traffic.

I did a check on it's MAC address and it came up as "Invalid". So I put access controls on it, only to find that my wife's iPhone was blocked from the WiFi.

I've given all devices fixed IP addresses.

The issue isn't restricted to any particular device.  It just seems to randomly change any device to something else.

Not a serious problem, it's just frustrating and undermines the confidence in the security of the router.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Plusnet Hub 2 randomly changes WiFi device icons

I just set up my Hub 2 (upgraded from a Hub 1) yesterday and thought it would be a good chance to give all devices a name and icon. There’s 23 devices on the network (home office) and most of them were showing up as unknown_xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. After a bit of work (and not made easy by Apple’s private mac addresses) I had all but four identified, named and given the most suitable icon, just a shame there are no icons for managed switches and VOIP handsets.

I had a look this morning and like you quite a few device icons have changed, very frustrating after spending an afternoon sorting it all out!
