Plusnet Hub Two Router for New Business Customers

Plusnet have introduced a new Hub Two router which is being supplied to new business customers. It looks like it is a rebadged BT Smart Hub 2. There is a set up guide for it on the Plusnet website:

https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/hub-two/

Hopefully it will soon be available to residential customers.

^Small correction. We’re shipping the Hub Two for business accounts now and ‘coming soon’ for residential customers, I can’t say when though…

We're unlikely to be able to email everybody but you should see it on our home fibre product webpage Here when it's out.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two Router for New Business Customers

Is someone from plusnet able to confirm whether all customers will receive a hub two to replace the shocking hub one?

Or is this just going to be available to be new customers only?

@Jiffyuk  I think you can be sure that Plusnet will not be dishing out hundreds of thousands of new routers to existing customers. It will be new customers only. 🙄

I could see this coming. I can imagine the deluge of requests once they are released to residential customers.

From my increasingly unreliable memory I think that the way that BT handled it when the Smarthub 6 first came out was by charging existing customers if they wanted the newer hub.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two Router for New Business Customers

I wouldn't call the Hub One "shocking" but it is getting to be an old piece of hardware. I am currently running one which was flashed to OpenWRT, which makes it a rather different beast. At least one of the suppliers of chipset elements has changed owners a couple of times since the Hub One design was settled.

I did a little digging and the design seems to be from 2013.

The new Hub Two and its BT equivalent has several improvements but the critical one has been reported as a BS6312 port to support digital telephones, ready for when analogue telephone service is retired.

Whatever we use to connect our network to Plusnet, that's a looming change we need to be getting ready for.

According to the Plusnet website the Hub Two router is now also being supplied to all new residential customers taking a fibre service.

...and to existing customers who take out a new FTTC contract, according to the Twit feed.

Re: Plusnet Hub Two Router for New Business Customers

Any ideas as to how much we [existing FTTC residential customers] will be charged if we wish to upgrade to the 'Plus Two Router', please?
