@pv, I've closed the port on your device so shout up if you notice any ill effects.

Brilliant, many thanks. Will this survive a factory reset?

Thanks Bob, I tested this out and it did survive a factory reset. 👍

Re: Ports 4567 and 6161 on Plusnet Hub One open

Hi Bob

How do I close ports 4567 and 6161 on my router, I see they are still open.

Re: Ports 4567 and 6161 on Plusnet Hub One open

You can't.

4567 is used by Plusnet as a remote control "feature" so they can "administer" your Hub.

I don't know what 6161 is - this shouldn't be open unless you have a connection open.

@bobpullen has explained in this thread why port 6161 is open on the Plusnet Hub One; it will be closed in future firmware.

@bobpullen I notice you are testing a new firmware, 4.7.5.1.83.8.273.

Is port 6161 closed in this firmware?

@david_ha 4567 is supposed to be open. We'll be looking to close port 6161 for everyone early next month, all being well.

No, it isn't.

There are no plans to deploy .273 in anything other than a reactive capacity though. We're aiming for a version later than this for full deployment.

The change planned for early next month won't be a firmware update.

This has now been done and there is a policy running that will close the port for everyone, pending the next software release where it will be closed in firmware.

If anyone continues to notice the port is open, then let me know.

Re: Ports 4567 and 6161 on Plusnet Hub One open

@bobpullen

When is open not really open and accessible? I use a Smarthub 6 and use GRC's Shields Up! to scan ports. I assume that the Smarthub also uses Port 4567 for TR069 communications. Shields Up! gives three port states, Open, Closed, and Stealth.

Shield Up! advises that port 4567 is in Stealth Mode. Is this the case for the Hub One? Presumably Stealth could mean that the port is open but will not respond to general probes or could be Closed?

Re: Ports 4567 and 6161 on Plusnet Hub One open

4567 is open on your router - so I'm guessing that Shields Up! doesn't get a rejection, but doesn't get a response from a service running on the device.

Why wasn't a less 'obvious' port number chosen - I suggest 12345 would be much better.. 😀

Re: Ports 4567 and 6161 on Plusnet Hub One open

@Baldrick1 my port 6161 is closed but not firewalled. @bobpullen is the new state for this port intended to be closed or firewalled?

Good observation:-

The application that was built to use this port has been disabled. Interesting that the port is only closed and not stealthed though. I'll ask the team to address this at the firmware layer if possible. Thanks for pointing it out.

Can't be certain but I've a feeling it uses 7547.
