@nomad101 you need what's generally known as a cable or wireless router i.e it has an RJ45 (ethernet) WAN port.
It must support a PPPoE type internet connection.
I find the router features fairly basic and planning to purchase an alternative router.
Can I ask what other features you require ? and then people may be able to make recommendations
