Safeguard Settings in Bridge (Modem) Mode

I am using my Hub 2 in Bridge Mode and have tried setting the Safeguard settings as directed from PlusNet account web application.   When I press save, to save the settings, I get the message back that it is not possible to save these settings at this time.

Is this because I am using Bridge mode?  No problem if it is, my Ubiquiti gateway which connects to the Hub 2 can also achieve content filtering (although not with such fine granularity as the Hub 2), but it would be handy to know the answer to this.

Many thanks to the community in advance for any replies received.

Re: Safeguard Settings in Bridge (Modem) Mode

Fix

@RickyCafe Safeguard works by assigning a different pair of DNS servers to your account. Providing your Ubiquity gateway is using the default DNS servers obtained from the PPPoE connection , then Safeguard should work. However, I understand that there is currently a general problem with Safegurad that is under investigation. This is probably why your settings are not being saved and is nothing to do with using the hub in bridge mode

Re: Safeguard Settings in Bridge (Modem) Mode

Thank you @MisterW for this really helpful and informative reply. It tells me exactly what I need to know.

As it happens, then the safeguarding system would likely not have worked on my system as I have set up the preferred DNS servers in my Ubiquity configuration:  (the Google DNS - surprise surprise).

I will therefore keep the Content Control on within the Ubiquity system which is a bit 'broad brush', but does block access to the usual suspects of notorious websites in both 'Work' and 'Family' mode.

Once again, very many thanks for your detailed and extremely helpful response.

@RickyCafe correct, if you override the Plusnet supplied DNS then Safeguard won't work.

If you don't want to use the ISP supplied DNS but still want content control then it might be worth looking at OpenDNS https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/
