Setting up hub2 on Full Fibre 900 with Deco M5

We had full fibre 900 installed yesterday and are using the Plusnet Hub 2. We had three deco M5s set up to extend the range from the house.

I’ve tried and failed to set it up with the full fibre and wonder if anyone has been successful. I’m not very technical minded but can follow instructions!

I’ve searched and read the M5 should be plugged directly into the ONS box on the wall but it hasn’t worked.

Has anyone successfully set this up and could assist please?

The new hub is now in the front room and I’m getting approx 500 speeds here but in the bedrooms we’re only getting 35 so desperately need to find a solution.

@Nell51

I’ve searched and read the M5 should be plugged directly into the ONS box on the wall but it hasn’t worked.

That's correct, the main Deco should be connected to the ONT with an ethernet cable.

You then need to set the Deco internet connection for PPPoE and enter your Plusnet username & password.

See https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1592/ for information

NB make sure that VLAN ID is disabled ( or 0 )

The  username required is <youraccountname>@plusdsl.net and the password is the one you use to access your plusnet account at  https://www.plus.net/member-centre/login see the help guide here https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/

Re: Setting up hub2 on Full Fibre 900 with Deco M5

Thank you @MisterW. I’d carried on searching and realised I hadn’t put in the @plusdsl.net for the username.

I’ve followed your instructions and I’m all set up - thanks again ☺️

I’m getting speeds of 530/550 in the front room where the ONS box and with the additional two M5 decos upstairs I’ve managed to increase the speed upstairs to between 80-170. Is there anything else I can do to try and increase the speed? Would the addition of further decos help?

@Nell51

If you really want faster speeds upstairs then you could consider getting someone in to run an external ethernet cable upstairs, terminated at either end by ethernet wall sockets.

Not the cheapest option but gives a solid starting point upstairs and is future proof.

@Nell51 Im afraid I've no practical experience of mesh systems. The M5 isnt a high spec system and has no separate backhaul channel so I wouldn't expect much improvment from adding more units.

FYI

Whilst the M5 has no separate WI-FI back-haul, it most definitely *DOES* support Ethernet back-hail!

@PNCommunityGuy  yes I'm aware of that, but I didn't think that the OP would be considering installing cables!
