Smart Hub 2 Bridging TP-Link Ax72 Ac5400

Hi All, hoping someone here can help me!

As far as I am aware it's FTTC, my plan states Unlimited Fibre

I am trying to configure this router: https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax72/

I have:
- placed the Smart Hub 2 in bridging mode (solid purple light)
- ethernet connected from LAN 1 (SH2) to WAN (AX72)
- selected PPPoE and entered the correct credentials
- specified the VLAN ID (802.1q) 101
- no option for VLAN ID (802.1p) 0 on the VLAN options of the Ax72
- it forces me to set a VoIP ID which I randomise

It doesn't seem to want to connect...

I then tried:
- cloning the MAC of the smart hub
- updating the Ax72 Firmware to the latest
- factory resetting the SH2 and checking the connection works , which it does.
- factory resetting the Ax72 and repeating
- turning both the SH2 and AX72 off and on after configuration

Questions:
- is setting VLAN ID (802.1p) 0 important? This seems to be missing from the AX72
- is there a compatible tp-link modem/router I can mesh the AX72 with and try that out

Hopefully someone can point out that I am missing something as it's driving me crazy!

The VLAN 101 is a modem setting, so is only needed in a combined modem/router. As you have the Hub2 in bridge mode it is done there.

Delete it from you router and see how you go.

@Desynchronous basically you need the AX72 to NOT do any VLAN tagging. In bridge mode the Hub 2 will automaticallly perform the VLAN tagging.

Is there an option on the AX72  to disable VLAN ID ? I cant seem to find a full manual for it at the moment ...

edit: if its configuration looks like this https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1585/ then uncheck the 802.1q check box, that should sort it

Re: Smart Hub 2 Bridging TP-Link Ax72 Ac5400

@Desynchronous  You don't need to set any VLAN config in the router, that is done in the HUB2 which is in bridge mode so acting as a modem.  Just the PPPoE WAN mode and Plusnet credentials are all you need.

I thought the HUB2 light should be pink in bridge mode, are you sure its set up correctly.

edit:  I see others have been quicker than me but saying the same thing.😁

Purple is no Internet connection.

I don’t know if this over rides pink.

Re: Smart Hub 2 Bridging TP-Link Ax72 Ac5400

@Baldrick1  The OP has said the Hub2 works in router mode after a reset, so it looks like it is not being configured correctly for bridge mode.

Edit  Or as @Dan_the_Van says it may be the colour is not that obvious.🤔

Thanks, will do that as @Mustrum and @MisterW have said also.

Yes to confirm it is the solid Pink (more purple IMO!)

Re: Smart Hub 2 Bridging TP-Link Ax72 Ac5400

@Dan_the_Van

I have presumably got confused due to my previous use of a BT Smarthub, with a feature that’s not supported on Plusnet versions.

I have got purple when configuring a Smarthub as a WAP, see https://help.business.bt.com/app/categories/guide/a_id/43968/view/42397/c/5404/
