WiFi printing to Brother MFC-6490CW

Hello,

I used to be able to print through wifi to my Brother MFC-6490CW printer when I was connected to my BT hub.

I have entered the details for the plusnet SSID, and the wifi code, and the printer displays the wifi beams to say it is connected, neither my PC, nor the brother app on my phone, can find the printer.

I have tried uninstalling the printer and the brother Utilities software/driver on my Win 10 PC but this hasn't worked.

I tried manually entering the assigned IP address for the printer (169.254.90.149), but the PC still can't find the printer.

Fix

@Sam_Hardy   your printer is not connected to your router, the ip address you have quoted is a default address and not in the range allocated by the router..

Suggest you try again to connect it to the router.

@Sam_Hardy

On your Win 10 PC enter the command prompt (type cmd in the search field at the bottom of the screen) and enter the following:

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Then try again. If that doesn't work try the the command prompt in administrator mode (right click the command app, rather than the left and select Run as Adminiatrator))

Re: WiFi printing to Brother MFC-6490CW

Hi @Sam_Hardy

I agree with @Mustrum the printer is defaulting to a link local address as it failed to get an IP address from the router.

The PC will not be able to communicate with the printer until it has an IP address range within the LAN range.
For a Plusnet Router (and a BT router) the LAN range is typically: 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253.

For some reason the printer is not obtaining the IP address from the router.

As other devices can connect to the Plusnet router I would assume it is a printer issue.

Can the printer be totally reset before attempting to connect via WiFI to the Plusnet router?

Regards

Richard
