Hi Guys,
I am thinking of buying this router
as it fills a lot of my needs which the HUB2 does not.
Asus ZenWiFi_Pro_XT12 AX11000 Tri Band Router
2x 1G LAN ports
1x 2.5 LAN port
1x 2.5 WAN port
WI-FI 6
It is expensive and some of the options on it are not
clear in the pdf manual. So, I thought I would bring it to the
forum and kick it about a bit and find its good point and bad points?
I have full fibre (FTTP) 500Mbps
As a side issue I have had a TP-Link Archer VR2800
up and running and it cannot deal with the speed
Hence that has gone on my selling list.
I am hoping this can manage the speed as it is advertised as 2.5Gbps WAN?
getting back to the ZenWiFi_Pro_XT12 AX11000
it is on Amazon advertised as a WI-FI 6 router
yet in the pdf manual I do not see any mention of WI-FI 6?
can anyone confirm it has or hasn’t got WI-FI 6?
My other question is how good is the WI-FI coverage on this router compared to its rivals?
I have seen mixed reviews on this subject.
I have an internal network that is capable of running at 2.5Gbps
If I want to set a mesh system up can I connect another
ZenWiFi_Pro_XT12 AX11000 through a TP-Link switcher box to a remote node on any Lan or WAN ?
Or do they need to be connected direct cabled like they were on an umbilical cord?
TY

Well according to the specs it has a quad core 2.0ghz processor compared with the vr2800s. Dual core 1ghz

@Flourgrader in theory it has 4 times the grunt , 4 x 2 as against 2 x 1. Ok, so its not that simple, but most routers are Linux based which is pretty good at multithreading so it ought to be able to process QoS at the same time as handling the other functions.

XT12 has WiFi6, but not 6E, so you do not get the benefit of the third 6GHz band. ET12 does have 6E.
XT12 can run custom MerlinWRT firmware that adds a few features (ET12 is unsupported in this regard).
With both XT12 and ET12, additional units can form a mesh over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
If you are looking to mesh over Wi-Fi, I'd go for XT12. If wanting to mesh over Ethernet, I'd recommend the ET12.

@bobpullen Thank you, for your thought.
If I can go by what I am reading the Asus ET12 AXE11000 would be the better one
it quotes
WI-FI System Coverage up to 610 Sq. Mtr/6,000 Sq. ft
whereas the ASUS ZenWiFi XT12 AX11000 Covers Up to 3000 Sqr Feet
Big difference? don’t know why? They look identical in build!
Yes, it would be the Ethernet route I would go down to mesh them.
All my main PCs are on Ethernet.
I also have 8 CCTV cams on the system and more could be added.
I like the use of the Guest network as well, which I had on the old Archer VR 2800
plus a lot more!
