Get your Game On with Plusnet
Today we’re launching our first ever Gaming Week which we hope will provide you with a fun insight into the world of gaming and the industry. From gaming companies to you, the gamers, we have it covered! Who doesn’t love gaming? We've all played a game at some point in our lives and so we wanted to bring you some more fun and exciting content to give us your thoughts on. Everyday, we’ll be posting thoughts and comments from our friends and experts across the industry and then next Saturday (5th October) we’ll be holding our first Online Gaming Tournament playing Battlefield 3. This gives you the the chance to be crowned the winner of the first ever Plusnet: Get Your Game On! Tournament. There’ll be trophies and a range of great prizes up for grabs, and you won’t just be playing against each other. Oh no! Our finale will also give you the opportunity to face-off in an intense battle against the Plusnet staff in our first Plusnet v Gamers winner-takes-all matches on F1 2012. Several members of Plusnet staff have already signed up so if you think you are good enough to take on the public and ourselves, then why not head over to our sign-up page on Surveymonkey to confirm your interest. More details can also be found over on our Community Forums. Note: To participate you will require Steam, Origin and the games that we'll be playing.
What is Gaming Week about?
We all know that gaming is huge business out there. From your console to your mobile phone, you can play games at the touch of a button or with the tip of your finger. And so we thought what better than just to have a week where people can chill out, read and share our thoughts and just enjoy themselves ahead of the dark wintry months ahead (it doesn’t bear thinking about, we know!) According to the Association for the UK Interactive Entertainment, one in three people describe themselves as gamers whilst 2010 recorded 63 million video games sold – that’s over one per person to you and us. Meanwhile, over 21m homes here in the UK now have a broadband connection meaning that online gaming is more accessible than ever before...and this doesn’t event take into account the amount of games played on smartphones with new apps being created every day. Over the week, we’ll be consulting with experts and enthusiasts and covering subjects as diverse as...
- Bandwidth and Gaming Usage
- Female Gamers and the Games Industry
- Graphics versus Gameplay
- A tax break and whether it will benefit gaming companies.
Keep posted every day for a different topic and be sure to let us know your thoughts!
Why are we doing this?
We know that a lot of our users and even our staff love gaming – we even have our own internal Steam Group! This week is all about a mixture of the serious and the light-hearted. It will touch on some of the issues affect us as gamers, consumers and ISPs but also give you the chance for us to show you that we are real-life human beings! We also want to highlight that opportunities do exist for a career in gaming industry and help promote this area as an option when it comes to choosing what to study at A-Level and at University.
Full Steam Ahead!
That gives you a flavour of what to expect and we very much hope you are looking forward to a whole week of gaming related content. Remember to sign-up to get involved in our online competition next Saturday – we are looking forward to beating you! If not, get on your different platforms and Get Your Game On! 7 DAYS TO GO – On Friday 4th October gaming companies FUTURLAB, creators of Playstation game Velocity, and TEAM 17, creators of the infamous WORMS series, will be taking over our Twitter feed to answer YOUR questions. More details will be provided on this next week. Don’t forget to enter our Gaming Tournament and share this with your friends and family! And most of all, keep checking in our Community Blog every day for more interesting features on gaming.
