The capacity for the sold-out Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon has been increased due to unprecedented public demand.
The additional places, which will take the capacity of the inaugural event to 6,100, will be released for sale on Friday, 26th April. As the initial capacity of the event sold out within just three days, demand for the new places is expected to be high.
If you or somebody you know is interested in running, but missed out the first time, then this could be just the news you're waiting for ...
Event director Sara Birkinshaw said:
“We knew the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon would be popular, but I think it is fair to say it took even us by surprise when it sold out in just three days.
“The demand was so high we could probably have sold out the event twice over. Since January we have had an enormous number of requests to increase capacity. The course goes right through York’s ancient city walls, which is fantastic, but, obviously, they restrict the sheer numbers of people we can put on the route for 2013.
“However, after discussions, we have now been able to increase capacity of the event to 6,100.
“It’s great news for the event but also for the many people who missed out on a place in January.
“It must be stressed, though, that these will be the very final places in the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon. Capacity is now at its maximum and we will not be able to increase it again.”
The additional places will only be available to those registered on the official Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon waiting list – via www.theyorkshiremarathon.com - by midnight on Monday 22nd April. Only those registered by that time will be able to gain access to the registration system when the places go on sale at 9am on Friday 26th April.
The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon – with a course that is flatter than London, New York and Paris - will bring a mass participation marathon closer to home for the thousands of Northern runners keen to push themselves to the ultimate limit. Entries have come from across the UK, France, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, the USA and even the Caribbean.
Plusnet will be entering a team of our very own runners to raise money for Sheffield homeless charity, Roundabout so watch this space for further details ...
