With our commitment to Plusnet customers being, “We’ll do you proud,” we’ve spent the last few months - as you’ll have seen from previous blog posts - researching what is it that our great nation takes pride in. When it comes to British industries it is entertainment that comes out head and shoulders above its rivals. Six out of 10 (59%) people are proud of our entertainment sector, with the closest rivals coming from Britain’s industrial sector, which polled 51%, and manufacturing with 47%. Here at Plusnet, we’ve been delving to find out about specific programmes the nation likes and does not. It’s what the Doctor ordered... Doctor Who comes out top of the poll with nearly half of the country (48%) saying they are proud of the show. However, the relative new-comer on the scene, Downton Abbey is hot on its heels with a score of 44%. The survey, which saw over 2,000 people questioned, also reveals that the nation is more proud of Coronation Street than Eastenders. Coronation Street scored a commanding 11 percentage points more than Eastenders, with a third (34%) of the nation saying they were proud of the Manchester-based soap compared to just 23% being proud of the goings on in Albert Square. But we haven’t got the X Factor... Meanwhile, excitement reached fever pitch for the finals this weekend but our results hint our obsession with reality TV may be waning with The X Factor coming out bottom of the survey. Just one in five (20%) say they are proud of the talent show. While the survey showed an expected bias in the 18-24 year old bracket, with 29% of this group being proud of The X Factor, this still did not compare favourably to other programmes. Interestingly it was Doctor Who which scored highest again, with nearly four in 10 (39%) in this age bracket, being proud of the show.
