Just letting you know that I'm picking up on this again. The hiss does concern me a little so I'm going to run some intrusive tests on the copper line to start off with. Once done I'll report back here again.

The line test you did at 09:35 this AM, is very interesting... as my router was powered down, i switched it off last night, as I was sick of looking at the flashing sync light.... It was not powered back on until the afternoon. The stats you have provided are interesting, as they look entirely normal. How can you get stats showing the line is in sync, when my router is off?
Looking at the routerstats from today, after powerup attenuation is again up and down. i have attached it for you.
With regards the electrical work, I altered the way the power distribution works. I have done away with the power strip, and only have the phone, and the router plugged into the double socket, and nothing else. Also checked all downstairs sockets, for earth faults, and none found.
Its frustrating that we thought all was well again, and this lasted around a week, but instability has coincided with wet weather returning, and the phone ringing.
I agree both a 'D' and 'E' side check should be redone, but by a ground engineer, as I feel sure its dodgy joints causing the issues. Maybe a lift and shift may help, but I am doubting this is REIN. Maybe even a full cease and reprovide, may cure the issue....
I await the almightys response (BT....)

It looks like the next stage will be for an engineer visit as per the message I've left you, if you could advise of your availability I'll get that booked (and make sure it goes through with notes so we get the right engineer).

He seemed quite knowledgeable, and also amazingly was the same engineer who did the vist last time, so he was aware of the issues. I had a long conversation with him, regards the issues, and he was very receptive in his comments, and also had all the notes from previous vists. PlusNet asked him to check the 'D' and 'E' side again, and queried a lift and shift. He was going to change the 'E' side pairs, but I did tell him, that previously the 'D' and 'E' side had been checked, and this was confirmed on his notes, so he went to the exchange to carry out the lift and shift, and checked the line from there. He then returned to the premises around an hour later, to do some more checks. I had checked the stats before he arrived, and after. All now appeared well, and he stayed on to do some more line checks, that all came back clear. In his 10min line test after the Lift and shift, he got no CRC errors at all. Now after 5 hrs I have 11CRC errors, and 7148HEC errors. Line attenuation has gone down as well. Hopefully this will have cured it....
Interestingly, whoever he had to contact to get a lift and shift done, refused to let him do it, instead insisting on a hawk line pair check etc etc, and pair swaps. To his credit, he persisted, and got his way. What I cant understand is why a lift and shift was so difficult to get done?? He did mention that 21CN don't seem to want to do anything....??the relavence of this comment....
This again all appears to be down to BTw, in their little ivory tower. Even the openreach engineers cant get hold of BTw. He has stated that the engineers would much prefer to be placed on a fault, and stay until its fixed if possible. This chap even stayed over the 2hr limit they have, and basically his comment was 'stuff em' He was really keen to get this sorted, and this was a breath of fresh air. He stated that joint issues on the 'E' side would be unlikely, as thay are in sealed chambers that have air under pressure blown down them, to keep water out, and also it would affect many lines, so it would be fixed anyhow. 'D' side joint issues again are not as rare, but again, if a cable is getting damp, then more customers would be affected. He feels that this should sort it, but if not, a cease and reprovide, is the next step, so all my jumpering and everything softwarewise, is moved and changed in the exchange.
BTw need to be brought to task by the ISPs, as this is what appears to be the weak link in the chain. They are more interested in getting engineers into jobs that make them money, such as new provides etc.
Anyhow, lets see what the engineers notes also say, and keep fingers and toes crossed.....

It certainly does sound like the engineer who visited you yesterday was very keen and has a commendable attitude which is always good to see.
I'm on the phone to BTW at the moment who are speaking with the engineer control desk to get the notes from the visit. I've already been informed that an engineering task is still open so it does sound like some further work may need to be done.
I'll report back again when I have more information.

I must say i am a little concerned that BTw are doing more work on this line.... From the conversations with the engineer, he was going to close of the fault, and I was under the impression that we were on a wait and see basis... PLEASE dont tell me BTw are going to cock it all up again.
Could you possibly find out why a lift and shift was refused before the engineer decided to press them?
BTW, checked stats this morning, no drops as yet, and error count appears OK, in just under 21hrs uptime, 23CRC errors, and 33028HEC errors, but I am interleaved, so I presume this is OK, and 20HEC errors.
Just for interests what do these errors mean, and also what does a LIFT and SHIFT actually do.

Like I say I can't find out until a little later today as to what's being done at the moment, but rest assured I will find out and let you know as soon as I can. Same goes with regards to why the lift and shift may have been delayed.
The purpose of a lift and shift is to disconnect your line from the line card at the exchange and reterminate it onto a different port. This is to help identify if the port itself or indeed the entire line card (which serves multiple connections) may be at fault.
With regards to errors CRC is a method of checking for errors in data transfer so a low count such as 23 should be no cause for concern. With regards to HEC errors, these perform the same function but help us indicate if the speed is set too fast for the given line conditions. As we are seeing these in high numbers interleaving may help out.

I've managed to gain some clarification as to what's happening at the exchange.
Following the lift and shift yesterday some line test results flagged up an issue with some of the frames equipment. As a result of this BTW automatically task out an engineer to investigate. They are still looking at this at the moment so I'll make sure you get updated once this has been done.

your speaking in teccie speak again Adam What does the above mean, is it there is some fault with the 21CN equip itself. The engineer did mention about some frames in the exchange and that a cease and reprovide would move me to a different frame etc.
Well all seemed well till 11:30 this morning.... Have had 4-5 resyncs since then, all however at acceptable levels, with no attenuation issues, or stupidly high SNRs. This may be down to the work done at the exchange, so cant really say until we have confirmation all work has been completed, but........ this is what happened after the last attempt at fixing where we thought it was all OK, stated to get spurious resyncs at acceptable levels, then it all deteriorated.
Not holding out much hope, but I would be very happy to be proved wrong.

I took you to be a techie from the way you have been posting.
Frames is a general term for the ADSL termination equipment at the exchange (i,e the line card, the DSLAM/Filters etc) like I say a lift and shift takes your line off of the port on the line card it was originally terminated onto and moves it onto another.
After the L&S was done an issue was flagged up on line tests so some of the line re-termination work as part of the L&S had to be redone.
Things to seem to be a little more stable so lets see how things go today over the next few hours. I'll come to review your connection logs in the afternoon to see if we need to act on this again.

Whilst I have a resonable knowledge of how ADSL works, and its foibles, I have no idea of what happens in the ivory towers of BT exchanges, or what their equipment does. I used to think its was run via smoke and mirrors, and couple of bits of damp string
Things seem Ok my end, over 1day uptime now, so heres hoping BTw have not fouled up things again, and wait and see. Will need to keep ticket open for at least a week yet I think, as this has happened before, as you know. Anyhow thanks in advance for your help, and matts again....

I've no issue with that, things are still looking good from our point of view. I'll leave your ticket open and will update it once a day to keep you appraised about how the connection is performing.

I'm fairly sure it still is, along with regular sacrifices of virgins, pentagrams drawn in fowl blood, and candles made of unicorn earwax.
