This is still an issue six years later.
Just had a message rejected when attaching a small .xlsx spreadsheet file. But it was accepted when I saved as .xls. Excel changed its default file format in 2007 so the page really should list the acceptable formats - especially because rejection means that the text of the online message is (still!) lost.

I'm sorry to see that this is still an issue. Due to how long ago my colleague raised this we can't check on the progress, however I've raised this with our digital team (internal ref: DFD-706) for further investigation. Thanks for flagging.
