The only way you can cancel a payment is to actually cancel the DD and start again.
Quote from: giro if you look at a direct debit default form its empty
the default is the company must give advanced warning of DD changes to enable its cancellation by a customer

and to claim that the 3 days a customers bank needs before a any account changes appears is advanced warning
is wrong
Quote The only way you can cancel a payment is to actually cancel the DD and start again
that is as plusnet would have it
but the DD protection is there for that reason looks like plusnet are not abiding by the DD rules

Quote from: giro well i've only been with plusnet three weeks and i feel like i'm with BT and already to leave the company over their business practices
capped internet use, capped data speed , problems in payment services and paying out for equipment needed without which they couldnt supply me with their services that i never finish paying for , that we have already as taxpayers paid for
its like BT installing a phone line so i can make calls that wont ever work because they only supply half a service ie they dont include the phone
or a router (which is actually a tool used in woodworking) or perhaps in the future made responsible to insure my own phone line
against faults , so that BT can make even more money
I hope BT are not looking tonight as they will take up the idea
hopefully the bankers con dem government get around to properly regulating all the big uk companies , like BP , BT, PO and
Energy and Financial Services etc
but my guess is the liberals and tory will take the easy class option and concentrate on the poor the unemployed and unemployment , creating more of it that is
never seen so many incorrect statements in such a short space

oversized DD payments taken from accounts when not expected causing bank charges from failing to have
insufficient money in an account to pay any DD
response by the FOS
In respect of the guarantee, it is designed to ensure that if a claim is made against the account erroneously, then that money should be paid back to the account straight away with the assistance of the account holding branch. In respect of the circumstances you describe, a claim was made and the payment was 'bounced', meaning that no payment left the account.
In relation to charges, if the debit was claimed incorrectly, or in excess of the amount that should have been claimed, we would normally suggest that evidence is obtained of the charges and this should be presented to the claimant of the debit so they can arrange to consider refunding the charges (if they made a mistake in claiming the debit). We would not normally consider a complaint about bank charges in relation to the error being made by the claimant. We would ordinarily consider the complaint if it is clear that the bank made a mistake

Now that really is an intelligent comment
Quote from: giro oversized DD payments taken from accounts when not expected causing bank charges from failing to have
insufficient money in an account to pay any DD
What you should have said was " failing to have sufficient money etc etc"
Having said that I fail, every month, to have insufficient funds in my account as all my DDs are paid on time.

How long is there between Plusnet sending the email and Plusnet submitting the DD request to the bank? This is the window the user has to get the amount corrected without them having to totally cancel the DD arrangement which is the only course if you use the bank's DD guarantee procedure (you can't stop a single payment).
Some time ago someone from Plusnet made a commitment to extend the 3 days - I'm not sure if it was on here on on PUG. I can't find it now.
I also find it interesting that Plusnet's owners give the full 10 days notice!

Quote from: Mand Hi there,
Firstly I'd like to apologise for the problems you've had here.
There is a problem open which our development team are working on. As standard we fix the problem first, and then do cleanup/refunds as appropriate. I can sort a manual refund for you now though if you'd rather?
As a further note we're looking into the DD notification period, with a view to making it longer.

Quote from: jelv Could someone from Plusnet answer this please:
How long is there between Plusnet sending the email and Plusnet submitting the DD request to the bank?
I received my monthly reminder this morning and the DD will take the money from my account on 6th.
At least PN tell you each month what they are doing. Most of the companies I pay by DD just take the money without telling me in advance.

It must arrive to me in a time that if it has errors they can be disputed and the DD canceled at my bank
many banks ask for a minimum of 3 full working days from the receipt of a written letter asking to do so
it states in the time part of the DD guarantee that your company itself completed advances of DD changes will
be notified in 3 days or at an agreed time
my bill is due to be collected from your DD agent on the 11th
are you prepared to send me a detailed final invoices for my phone and internet use in writing included the final VAT amount s to my mail box
3 full days excluding weekends before the 11th of this month ?

It contains the following:
Quote Please note - It is important that your payment details are valid and you have enough funds in your account on 06/08/2010 as failure to do so will result in your PlusNet Broadband Pay as you Go (15GB Special Offer) (Annual Contract, No Modem) account being disabled.
Note that it implies (contrary to what has been said in here) that the account will be automatically disabled - not that someone will manually check it. We've seen instances on these forums where people's accounts were disabled when they had sufficient funds in the account for the amount they actually owed, but not enough for the amount being overcharged by Plusnet.
The email also has NO information about what you should do if the amount is incorrect.
