Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

Two possibilities spring to mind:-
1) You've been moved to 21CN BUT on an ADSL1 profile. If this is the case then I'm sure the DC team will pick up on it and place a regrade order to change it to ADSL2+.
2) Your router isn't ADSL2+ capable and has therefore forced ADSL1. What make/model is your router ?

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

Well someone has kicked something off because I lost connection for a few minutes and now from my router (SMC7904WBRA-N adsl2+ compliant btw) I see this:
Up Stream 440 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 19337 (Kbps.)
which is excellent for downstream. The upstream hasn't changed but I assume will do so over the next 10 days - can someone confirm that please?
Thanks for all your help everybody

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

Great news!
Your upstream is capped by default on "manual" upgrades and you will need to ask PN to uncap it - I might be wrong but I don't think they will do that before the 10 day retraining period is over.

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

From the OPs original post:

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.

Upgrading this user to a capped upload and requiring him to then ask for it to be uncapped was ludicrous - why is it still being done this way?
Does Plusnet have to pay a fee to BTw for ordering the change? If so it makes even less sense!

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

I notice in the member centre that my line speed is still at the old settings:
Phone exchange:
   MARKYATE
Estimated line speed:
   8Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2012-01-11 14:17:49
Current line speed:
   7.15 Mb
I know it's not checked today but will it have an effect on my profile or whether my upload speed can be uncapped?
I only ask because speedtest.net won't show me above 6.9Meg despite syncing at 18Meg

I wasn't asked to uncap the upstream which is  why it wasn't done on the same order, I'll place another order to do that now mlavende. Are you aware that it will make a slight redution in the downstream.

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

Hi Adam,
I wasn't aware I'd need to ask for both. I assumed it was automatic. How much of a reduction in download speed are we talking? I don't suppose it will be  a lot will it?
I'm more concerned that my speed doesn't go above 6.9MB at the moment despite my much higher sync rate. Is this due to me still being on an old 8MB profile?
Thanks

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

No worries, it's very slight, a couple of percent normally.  The good news (in a way) is that your profile did need updating, that's now done so you should see a marked improvement.
Let me know if you definitely want to go for uncapped upstream and I'll do the honours.

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

With your stats you will not see any drop in downstream that you can detect. There is no good reason whatsoever why your upstream was capped. Angry

Re: Can I upgrade to ADSL2+

It is a little poor that I had to request the cap be lifted. How many people wouldn't know to do that? Ditto the fact that my profile wasn't reset to my new line speed. If this was my Father in Law he wouldn't have a hope.
Still, all sorted now and fairly painlessly.
Let's see what my upload speed is tomorrow when uncapped
Cheers

There is jelv all bulk upgrades are uncapped by default, we don't do it on manual upgrade orders unless we're asked.
