Changing date of Direct Debit - can't be done!!

What the hell?? I have around 30 direct debits coming out of my bank, from companies big and small. I've changed them ALL to the 1st of every month so I know exactly where my money is up to. Except for Plusnet - it's highly annoying.
Plusnet is apparently incapable of changing the date of my direct debit to the 1st of every month. Please can someone help, would be amazing if I could change the date. I was told on the phone that quite a few people have 'complained' about this too!

I'm fairly sure Billing Date's can be changed as long as a customer DOES NOT have Home Phone.

I don't have home phone no, why did they tell me it can't be done I wonder? I'm with BT with my phone. There's nothing online that I can see where I can change it either!

Today is 16th, lets say you normally get billed on the 14th. (So you've already paid up until 13th Dec)
All the PN agent needs to do is calculate a pro-rated payment for the 14th Dec to 31st Dec.
Then they need to move your bill date to 1st of month, and set your next bill date as 1st Jan.
Take payment now for the 1/2 month, and it's done.
It will throw your finances a little out of shape, but its the easiest way.
Other than that, you could get them to play around with your billing date (set the next bill date to be 1st Dec for example, and ask them to apply a credit to *that* invoice so that on 1st Dec you only pay the balance due for 14th-31st Dec)
The second way works better for you, but its harder for them.
The first way gets you where you want to be without too much difficulty though.
I have heard of people doing this - the trouble is that its not automated, so you need to get hold of the right person to do the sums and apply them manually.
Col's suggestions of hoping for a Comms Staffer is the best bet.

I've been trying to get my mother in laws account changed since March.
Extremely annoying as I said it could be done (being an old school plusnetter it could be done in my days)
Hopefully a kindly developer will pick up on this and sort it out as it isn't very useful to plan your finances.
