Your downstream attenuation (52.5dB) shows that you're a fair distance from your exchange, and you're never going to get blazingly fast speeds - at least not until your cabinet gets FTTC. Go to http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php to see what you might get under ideal conditions. It looks like a real throughput of around something over 3Mbps would be the best you can hope for (based on an IP profile of 3500).
At the moment the DSL type of G.992.3 indicates that you're on ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+ (G.992.5) - in theory that's not quite as fast, but in practice (at your distance from the exchange) it probably doesn't make much difference. Your downstream noise (SN) margin of 10dB is high, and it explains why you're not getting the fastest sync speed possible. The throughput of your last speed test (1.95Mbps down) is consistent with an IP profile of 2000, which is correct for your current sync speed of 2808. You're right at the top end of the 2000 band - just a little bit faster and your profile would be 2500. See http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm for details.
Your current speed may well improve during the training period. It's frustrating to have to wait, but at the moment I'd say leave things as they are and check your router stats from time to time to see if your sync speed and SN margin change - but note that they can get better or worse, especially early on in the training period. If your line remains stable (which it might, as it sounds like a fault's recently been fixed) things should improve.

Please post your router stats (as in your reply #31) shortly after restarting. The SN Margin then should be around your target noise margin (probably 9dB but possibly as high as 12dB).
When restarting the router it is best to disconnect from Plusnet first (click the "Disconnect" button on the router's Home page. Then switch off, wait a few seconds and switch on again, or display Systen Information and click "Restart my Thomson Gateway" under Pick a task. After the router restarts you will have to reconnect again via the Home page.
Note: speed tests will show no improvement until your IP Profile (and Plusnet's Current line speed) increase.

My suggestion is to leave it to the DLM for the moment.

Also, would the fact that i'm using an old GPO socket make much difference?

If you don't know how to do that, let us know the make/model of your router, and someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

The reason these higher frequencies don't work is due to attenuation at their frequencies being too high - the modem can't distinguish signal from noise at these frequencies. This is a normal physical characteristic of longer lines - not a fault.
If you are keen to monitor noise margin variation with time and check bit loading (which is what the previous paragraphs relate to) you could install RouterStats (the full version). Select the ST585 v6, v7 login option, this works with the TG585v8. For configuring and capturing graphs I suggest you follow the recommendations in this post.
