Re: Have PlusNet considered teaming up with Fon like BT do

Just connected to the BT WIFI connection near my office
I do not see any FON option on the log on page
There is BT Wi-fi (incl. BT Openzone)
but no FON listed at all.
A BT Wifi WITH FON would work, of course, but its the BT Wifi points that I was most looking for - so not sure a Fonera box is going to help me now.
Oh well.

Re: Have PlusNet considered teaming up with Fon like BT do

I've just placed an order for a Fonera Simpl
I hope most of the access points have Fon.  Well my hub 5 is broadcasting Fon.

I've been a member of FON for a number of years and (like somebody has already mentioned) have never had anyone access my connection.
As a FON user (as opposed to a BT FON user) you will be able to access the non-Openzone BT WiFi access points - in simple terms, the FON points transmitted by Home Hubs.

Re: Have PlusNet considered teaming up with Fon like BT do

I've only seen 1 'BTWIFI' hot spot.  The majority are 'BTWIFI-WITH-FON'
It's nice to have free wifi with Fon,  and they are broadcasted on most BT hubs

Using your phone and Google search for fon app and you have a hit that will take you to Google play store. You can then install the app.
Doing a search in play store will not find it.

How do I download the Fon App?

Short answer - "With some difficulty."  Sad
However, if you PM me a suitable email address I'll send you the version I've managed to get hold of (approx 8.6 MB zipped).

AFAIR I just copied the file (as is) to a suitable directory on my Android device (in my case located on its external SD card), then chose one of the options to install (sorry I've been to sleep several times since I did it and can't remember which option I chose  Wink  ).  You'll need to temporarily enable the Unknown sources check box.in the Security section of your device - I first checked the file for viruses etc. before copying it across and installing it.
Rather than type a long set of instructions, here's what is probably an appropriate article obtained by Googling the topicWink

Re: Have PlusNet considered teaming up with Fon like BT do

I am considering moving to BT just for their FON partnership. I would prefer to stay with Plusnet. Please consider linking to FON.

Several PlusNet contributors to this thread (myself included) have managed to use FON without moving to BT.  It might require a smallish initial financial hit, but there's certainly no need to move to achieve it.  Wink

Re: Have PlusNet considered teaming up with Fon like BT do

For 30 GBP you can get a Fonera which then you can use BT Fon spots for free.
The one off cost is less than an average BT broadband bill!
