Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Tripped over that "strap line" yesterday and thought it most appropriate.  Wink
Sorry not quite with you on the Council comment? It is BT that are telling me the FTTC speeds. Or am I being incredibly dense? Embarrassed Not that I have any faith in our local councils either. I did ask PN to look into whether this was even possible or not, but I'm not sure they fully appreciate my meaning when I say rural.

Is the engineer actually putting up a new over head or has he put a request in for the same?  If you are anything like my rural area, they did nothing without a job request and a platform... which at best could take a day to two!

He is supposed to be doing it today - and warned that my connection would be disrupted - like it isn't already. The hoist was requested by the original engineer, ummmmm on the 19th May I think, and by the second engineer, 3 days later, and the whole thing has been with the BT escalation team since the 4th June.
Have to say it is nice to be able to come on here and have a rant.  Smiley

The connection is not long back on tjara33,  Smiley
Now connected to new pair, and he has done work down about a mile of cabling. Sync is up, IP profile is up, SNR is down, YEA! Now if I could just get someone here to play catch up with the speed then my download speed would be up too.  Wink

Hi Karen,
Glad to hear the engineer's carried out the work successfully!
I've notified Tom and he'll pick this up and give you a call later today.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Thank you Linn,
Only took them 4 booked appointments, one un-booked one and over 4 weeks .  Wink
If Tom can give my profile a tweak that would be good.

Hi Karen,
I've been in discussions with my PARISH council about the poor state of BT circuits in the area and the generally poor (ADSL) BB being provided.  Their stock response is that the Cheshire (County Council) funded rural high speed broadband programme will resolve such matters... they simply do not comprehend that delivering high speed fibre to a cabinet (FTTC) but not addressing the quality or length of the BTOR d-side infrastructure (wires from cabinet to premises) will result in no discernible improvement on long d-side lines (such as yours).  Much of the rural high speed broadband programmes are a complete waste of time where there are long wire runs from the cabinets.
Good news that your line is repaired.  I trust that you checked the sound quality for yourself before allowing the BTOR engineer to escape?  Do you have speed test reports?  If still ADSL can you also post your router stats too please?

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Hi Kevin
You have my deepest sympathy trying to get anywhere with your Parish Council.  Wink
The issue I have is with the BT availability checker, telling me I can get something which I quite clearly can't. "Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check." ? I don't think so.
Speed tests still haven't caught up, as they are still just under 1Mbps router stats previously were, 448 up, 1335 down SNR 20 up 13 down, line Att about the same, now they are:
Sorry should have added download Speed and IP profile regularly dropping to 0.5 or below and sometimes to 0.14

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Hi Karen,
I note you are on ADSL modulation and capped US - do you know if you can get 21CN on your exchange?  If 21CN is available, you might get a little more out of the US and a touch more on DS with ADSL2 depending on the tone utilisation.
Your synch speed is just a little slow for the line's attenuation, but not too far off the mark.
The BT profile is also a little low - what's the current speed on the PN portal; if this has not caught up yet, you are not going to see an improved through put, but I guess you already know that.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

The BT speed test doesn't have an upstream IP profile and the IP profile is a 20CN profile so she is on 20CN

I wouldn't describe standard 20CN ADSL Max as capped. Faster upstream on 20CN is only via the option Max Premium which costs an extra £7.83 per month.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Morning all,
Speeds back down again this morning,  Cry
21CN not available Kevin, and I think I'm already on Max,
Seems to have been packet loss during the night, just about to get the link for the TBB graph thingy which I started last night.
Gordon Bennet that graph is a tad brutal at the size it comes over at on TBB,  Shocked
