installing RouterStats to closely monitor line performance.
Certainly happy to try it Kevin, is it the full or "Lite" version I should use?

Linn,
Is Karen's ticket being proactively monitored - would a PM to someone be more responsive?

If the full version supports your router that is the one to go for.
If you are getting frequent changes in sync speed you must be having disconnections. In routerstats you will be looking for drops in the noise margin - if it gets near zero it will likely drop sync. If you can associate any activity such as using the phone or other electrical equipment with the drops in noise margin or loss of sync that would be very helpful. If you catch a drop of noise margin immediately pick up the phone and check if there is noise on the phone at the same time (dial 17070 option 2 for the quiet line test).
You also need to look to see if the routerstats graph looks better when you use the test socket inside the master socket.

Yip, it is by Tom B in Faults thanks Kevin.
Ummm, in diffs with the router (TP-Link TD-W8970) with the full one, url for status page (and every other page) is just the usual 192.168.1.1 and it won't accept that. Grrrrrrrrr
There has been ongoing work on this problem for probably 3+ years jelv, have done quiet line tests, test socket tests, etc. It is a very long, rural line and I suspect I'll never get to the bottom of it.
Most recent drops were overnight, last night, heavy rain, thunder and lightening. The engineer only finished doing some work 4/5 hours prior to that and it did improve - briefly.

BT checker I have run before and makes for highly entertaining reading.
Tom B in Faults has just escalated this again, after running more tests. He has been extremely good.

Although you are long way from the exchange you must be close to the cabinet. Your FTTC speeds look really good - have you not considered going for that?

I have been longing to go for it jelv, but I know where the cabinet is and we are 2 miles from it, (following the cable) so I just do not understand where they are getting those speeds from. Unless they have sneaked in another fttc cabinet that no-one knows anything about.
It's nearly worth going for the fttc just to see what happens - nearly,

Does looking up using the address checker give similar results?

Well now aren't you a clever wee bear. Got VERY different results with the address checker. Didn't even know that was available, doh, A little bit of an improvement on my present adsl - possibly. Though any fault remaining on the line will still impact it.
Thank you so much jelv, that makes much more sense.
