Re: How FAST is your broadband - and are you happy with it?

That's because the uplink uses the lower frequency band. and these frequencies propagate along the cable better than the higher bands use for the download.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adsl
"Frequency plan for ADSL. The red area is the frequency range used by normal voice telephony (PSTN), the green (upstream) and blue (downstream) areas are used for ADSL.|"

Re: How FAST is your broadband - and are you happy with it?

Happy with mine not just because of the speed ,about 3500, but because since I went on 21CN my connection has been really solid with no dropped connections (25 days now).I am on a estate with lots of overhead copper wire about 2 miles from the exchange.
Can anyone tell me how to get thoughs lovely blue topped boxes with the speed test in. Cool

Run a speed test at mybroadbandspeed;
Click 'share' on the right-hand side of the listed result;
Click in the 'Forum link' box and press Ctrl-A to select all its text;
Press Ctrl-C to copy that text, then Ctrl-V to paste it into a forum post here.

Re: How FAST is your broadband - and are you happy with it?

I rejoiced when I clocked 6.46Mb/s, the other night.  The usual is just under 5 Meg.  This is poor by comparison.
No, not happy currently!   Cry
Later that morning, I checked the exchange and found a possible cause!
BT is reporting that some of the virtual paths at this exchange are not operating within BT Wholesale's planning guidance, although they are still operating within the product specification.
At busy times, your ADSL connection may operate at a reduced speed, although not all customers on your exchange may be affected. You should only contact support if there is no current ETA date set.
The ETA fix time is: 18 Feb 10
Record last updated: 12 Feb 10
Also checked the router stats and the line is configured for 6 Megs down, so it looks like a BT problem this time!  Embarrassed

Re: How FAST is your broadband - and are you happy with it?

Well just having had problems over the last couple of months - I am happy to say I am really pleased with mine, although compared to most still pretty poor
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1610 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2528 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps
however after running on download speeds of never more than 750kbps except on rare occasions,  its a good improvement!!!!.

Thank you plusnet support team for your help!!!!  Smiley
