Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Please also post the assigned IP address A.B.0.0 which is giving you these problems as well.

You can also drop the PPP session reputedly until you get an IP address in a different range, or request a static IP address (£5) to get around the issue.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Most sites are UK bookies (Ladbrokes, Football Pools etc).  Surely if GeoIP have updated their records then their own tool would show the IP addresses as UK and with the might of PlusNet (BT) behind it, they should be fairly efficient at updating records.  I'm currently shown as Jakarta,Indonesia again on yet another 209.93.x.x range.  The IP range I seem to be getting the issues with are all 209.93.x.x, whereas I used to get 14x.x.x.x . I also recieved a text message welcoming me to PlusNet two days ago with 5 months contract still to go, just when all this started which hints at something wayward at PlusNet. It's annoying keep waiting an hour to get a new ip address in the hope it is going to be a UK one and as for not being able to access sites for months, surely that would be wrong on many levels (contract wise) and something PlusNet should be helping with as they are the root cause, allocating these addresses in the first place before companies have had time to reflect the new location - I don't pick the router IP address nor control the registration process.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

That's a very useful update.

@bobpullen is 209.93.x.x on the new network?

Is this a whole new paradigm of the "not in the UK IP address" syndrome(s) to those discussed hitherto in this thread?

Which geolocation website did you run those lookups from? Most of the popular ones should be reporting correctly.

You've been migrated to our new broadband network. Apologies for any confusion caused by the text message, it was sent in error.

On the new network, the ranges we assign IP's from are less varied at present which explains why you keep getting assigned IPs from 209.93.0.0/16.

If there are problems accessing certain betting sites, then we need to know exactly which sites, and how to go about replicating the problem so we can investigate further.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Thanks Bob,

www.footballpools.com is one that does not allow access. You don't even need and account to test it, just click any of the games and it will fail with 'Football Pools is not available in your region'. As also stated, you can go to MSN, Yahoo or Weather apps (android) and they all default to the wrong place.

The site I've been checking is GeoIPTool.com as this presents the information nicely, but bing maps also defaults to same US location.

I've also checked the folowing list: http://whatismyipaddress.com/geolocation-providers

Only Neustar and ip2location are showing my IP address as UK right now, the rest all think I'm currently on the west coast of America. MSN also thinks I'm in the West Coast of US now, East Coast of US this morning and Jakarta yesterday evening (I turn my router off morning and evening) - likewise Yahoo.

I'm avoiding my banking site, Lottery and other gambling sites as I don't want the hassle of potientially getting my accounts locked due to the fraud protection alogorithms, so can't/won't check those.

Hope this helps you get this sorted. I'm sure there are many other sites also affected and although most are still usable and allow you to correct the location, it's still a pain having to do so to get local news and information etc.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Bob,

Interestingly, MaxMind (GeoIP2) is showing my 209.93.123.x address as UK based and registered to PlusNet tonight.

This issue would seem to resolve around out of date IP/Location information, so I'm going to try and find out which GeoLocation provider footballpools.com is using, if any. Still won't help with US based sites (MSN,Bing,Yahoo) getting it wrong (less of an issue, more of an inconvenience) and I can't believe Microsoft would not be using the best and most reliable source(s).

I have no idea where else to go with this to get it resolved,

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Thanks for the detail. I'll run it by the team that helped 'warm' the IPs and see what they make of it.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

We have been assigned an IP 209.93.*.* yesterday and today (tried switching off router for half hour but always getting an IP in that pool) and as a result we can't access the DVSA MOT login website. ATOS who manage the DVSA website have admitted they don't really understand. My understanding is either we need an IP showing as UK based or ATOS need to unblock this IP range within the 'Incapsula' firewall part of their website.

Hopefully it is quicker for you to do something your end.

MOT website is: https://mot-testing.i-env.net/

Error:

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

I have a problem with this link.  I think the website may be hosted by Plusnet?  It was working fine yesterday.

I have been moved onto the new Network this morning, my IP begins 209.93.178.xxx.

Link:

taken from this thread:

Another forum member has kindly confirmed they can access the above link this afternoon.

Update: this looks more like a routing problem:

C:\Users\admin>tracert leehobson.xyz

Tracing route to leehobson.xyz [80.229.251.151]

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

I Your inability to access that site has nothing to do with the IP you've been assigned.

The domain points to a Plusnet-provisioned DSL connection:

~$ host leehobson.xyz
leehobson.xyz has address 80.229.251.151

And that DSL connection isn't online at the moment.

Re: IP Address assigned in wrong region

Hi Bob,

I still think there is a problem.

See latest traceroutes posted by core2lee and myself from:  legacy PN network, 3 mobile, GiffGaff(o2) mobile this morning.

https://community.plus.net/t5/Tech-Help-Software-Hardware-etc/Running-OpenWRT-on-the-Plusnet-Hub-One...

I don't know how routing works between old and new networks, but I observe my traceroutes on new network lists  peer1-et-10-3-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net.
