Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

I posted details of the issue I was having with my IP address resolving to a US location because plusnet were requesting customers to report their problems in this thread. As my service had worked fine and now didn't, I assumed there was an 'ISP level' fix that could be applied once the parameters of the problem were fed back to plusnet.

It now appears the root cause is due to geolocation changes being reverted or inaccurate in some provider databases, however I'm sure I'll have little to no success if I tried contacting them direct even if I knew who they were or if I tried contacting the websites apparently using the rogue geolocation data, not least because they don't offer the same access to someone 'in the know' as plusnet do, nor would I have the same technical knowledge of the issue and why it has arisen as plusnet obviously do.

I'm still hopeful that plusnet as MY service provider, will continue to do their best to resolve this issue.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Also, when I asked my sister - who also has Plusnet as her provider - to see if she has the same $$ problem with the same website, she doesn't! She sees ££, I see $$. We're both in the UK, looking at the same website. Anyone explain that?

Yes. Your sister has been assigned an IP address that the sites you are looking at thinks is in the UK. But the IP address you have been assigned looks like it's in the US.

It's down to luck (or rather bad luck). A relatively small number of users have been assigned IP addresses that some Geo Location databases think are in the UK.

So for me, about 2 days ago, all the sites that were saying I was in the US suddenly had me down as being in the UK again. That's good I thought, it's been fixed. Er, no, I'd just been assigned a new IP address as it turned out.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Thanks Bear. But I'm still unclear as to how the issue's going to be resolved... Is it just a case of Plusnet assigning me a new IP address? Tried that already when I called Plusnet over a week ago and got told to switch off the router for 65 mins and turn it back on, but nothing changed.

Is it a Plusnet problem? I'm just confused by mixed messages now.

Does Plusnet actually answer anyone here?

Reading back through the last couple of pages, I'm interested to know whether or not there are still issues accessing the following sites from the 209.93.0.0/16 IP range?

You can see what IP address you're assigned by clicking here.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

Bob, yes I confirm I'm still having problems i.e.

  • cunard.co.uk (redirecting to cunard.com)
  • crosswater.co.uk (redirecting to crosswater-bathrooms.com)

I tried the '65 minute ip reset' fix again yesterday. Although I got a new ip addess, unfortunately it's still in the same 209.93.xxx.xxx range

Bob - yes, my IP is 209.93.xxx.xxx and I'm still having trouble with road.cc (can access the site easily, but the best buy links are showing as dollars not pounds)

  • totesport.com
  • luckpantsbingo.com

I've reached out to those three sites too. For clarity though...

What happens when you try depositing money? Any chance of a screen grab?

@bobpullen,

Out of interest, what is they typical response to you having a word?  "Oh we did not realise our geo-location data was so out of date / flawed..."?  Clearly your words with the individual organisations are bring about some change at THEIR end of the game...

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: IP addresses not UK - Can customers please report any problems here

unibet.co.uk still not working I'm afraid.

I've attached two screenshots - the first one is what I get when I try and deposit using my Plusnet connection.  The second is what i get if I remain on the same website, but tether through my phone with 3G (I get a verified by visa page, i.e. it's working).
