That site gave me a silly result, try the following it give a more sensible whois result.

This week I was assigned to 146 IP range.
Formerly owned by INFONET USA.
Some sites geolocation database is not up to date and regard me as in the USA.
Causing many problems.
When I reboot, ip renew etc, I get new IP but still in 146 range.
It is a legacy issue (not Plusnets fault) but imho the only answer for me is to get off the 146 range.
Can I get off the 146 range on request ?

I've also just got a public IP starting 146 and experienced my first problem with a website.
The problematic website is http://www.paddypower.com when attempting to place an online bet I am told that they do not accept bets from the country that I am accessing their site from. I assume they think I'm in the USA as well.
I have spoken to Paddy Power and they have pointed me firmly in the direction of Plusnet.
Can anything be done about this please @Chris?
[edit] I've dropped my connection twice and got a different 146.x.x.x address and then a 143.x.x.x and same problem with all three of them. My 143.x.x.x is INFONET on who is lookup as well

AFAIK the following four IP ranges are the ones giving this problem:
146.198.0.0/16
146.199.0.0/16
146.200.0.0/16
143.159.0.0/16

@npr Thanks for that but giving the ip ranges with issues doesn't exactly resolve the problem, Is there anyway Plusnet can get these IP's listed as being UK, since I think the issue stems from them being listed as originating in the USA.
I've just dropped my connection and got another 143.159.x.x which is annoying.
How many times must I drop and reconnect in order to get an IP not in one of those dodgy ranges I wonder?

No, it doesn't exactly resolve the problem ----- it does however help you identify if your IP may have this issue.
From my experience with this issue, and AFAIK, these IP ranges where registered by Plusnet as residing in the UK something like 3 years ago. Unfortunately they were previously registered as being in the US and that information seems difficult to remove from all the nooks and crannies of the internet. It's not really that surprising, as we all know there's a lot of inaccurate information on the net.
So in theory PN have done nothing wrong, but unfortunately they have created a significant problem for those of us who are sensitive to this issue --- but then, a one off £5 for a static IP is not great sacrifice to fix the issue.

@npr I agree PN haven't done anything wrong but when public IPs are re-assigned like this is would be good if the details were updated promptly by all databases.
That's a good idea about the static IP address, I hadn't given it much thought until you mentioned it and £5 isn't a lot to pay for a one off fix to this issue. I may just do that.

IP address ranges are registered with registrars - that data can readily be updated by the IP owner.
Registrar data is distributed and shared to many services - Whois lookups and geo-location data providers.
Individual organisations buy geo-location data to use as they feel appropriate.
To get the right experience there are a multitude of revised data hand offs which need to be current and maintained. Cost cutting within end use organisations can lead to their geo-location data becoming not fit for purpose ... no matter what the IP owner does.
Look for yourself - put the problematic IP address into half a doze "where's this IP" services and see the wide variation of the locations reported. I'm on a fixed IP address and geo-location data for that can put me all over the place.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Depends upon if Scotland thinks its in the U.K. - Nicola thinks not!
I am reported to be all over the UK - with Plusnet or BT or no one. The point being the SAME IP registration data is being differently reporting ted by different geo-data providers ... at different times.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

So even paying for a static IP address may not completely resolve my issue then? I could still end up anywhere in the world?

Very unlikely.
I don't think Plusnet would be daft enough to provide a static IP from the problem blocks.
