But, going by the comments here, and that I'm in my 60s and not a gamer - could my interleaving be left ON, please?
Thank you.

Basically interleaving is error correction, which does mean slightly higher pings but also that any errors in the data transmission are much less likely to affect anything. Yours is currently set to Auto which means it's controlled by the equipment in the exchange, at present it's on and given the speed of your line it's very likely it'll stay on. Having said that though if it is turned off automatically it'll be because the line is working fine.
We can set it to On if you wish, but I suspect as above it'll stay on if it remains set to auto. You should be fine with either setting.
Hope that helps explain.

Since you don't do gaming I suggest leaving the Interleaving setting where it is now on Auto. That lets the equipment in the exchange do what it regards as best for you which should be OK. You don't need to do anything to continue with that setting.

Quote from: Matt Looking at your line, the records are showing that interleaving has been on Auto since at least the start of October and has been set on Fastpath since then as well?
What is "fastpath" and what effect does it have on interleaving?

At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.

Quote from: spraxyt Fastpath means the same as interleaving off.......
Kitz explains the process here.
Thanks for the link. I'm beginning to understand what it means ( I think ? ). But it's confusing when Matt says that interleaving can be on "auto" and fastpath can be on at the same time.

Interleaving can have a number of 'depth' setting (as explained by Kitz). When set to "auto" the DLM chooses whichever of these depths it reckons is appropriate for the monitored line conditions. One of the available depths is '1' which is equivalent to 'off' (or fastpath). So if auto chooses a depth of 1 it is equivalent to having fastpath. What Matt was trying to say was that applied for you since at least the beginning of October.
In other words if you'd had interleaving permanently turned off (ie fastpath) you wouldn't have seen any difference because DLM had chosen that anyway.

I'm resurrecting this thread again because I've just had this email from Plusnet:-
"We have asked our wholesale broadband suppliers to turn interleaving on, on your phone line to try and fix your current broadband problem.
Interleaving is a form of error correction that helps to improve the stability of high-speed broadband. One drawback of interleaving is that it can increase ping times, which may cause problems for online gamers.
We think that turning on interleaving may help with your connection problems. Interleaving usually takes 24 hours to turn on, but can take up to 5 days to take effect. "
I can't believe, after all the discussion in this thread, at some time in the last six years Plusnet decided to turn interleaving off.

Hi @Boz, it's very likely that at some point that DLM has turned this off as there were no errors and the line was stable.
Looks to have been turned back on due to a high number of drops recently, this does looked to have stabilised now however, are you still having an issue?

Hi Lauren
Thanks for responding. I must admit that I haven't noticed any dropouts recently. I'm still having problems with failing to connect to DNS servers, but that was highlighted in another thread. It is possible that the two issues are connected.

Hi Boz,
Thanks for coming back to us.
Interleaving is back on and the line is looking pretty good.
How are things looking from your side?
Best wishes
Dave

Hi Dave
Thanks for the confirmation about interleaving. Apart from DNS server issues, everything seems to be okay now - I've encountered no dropouts recently. The Plusnet tech guys thought there may be a problem with my router and filter, but the original equipment has been back for a few days now. So I guess interleaving has settled the line down - I just wish Plusnet hadn't turned it off !!
