Looks like Plusnet has entered politics ...

After a campaign by left-wing activists Plusnet has decided to stop advertising in the Sun.

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/02/uk-isp-plusnet-stops-advertising-sun-newspaper-backlash...

The canard is that the Sun is morally unacceptable, in a way that the Guardian which pumps out vile identity politics hatred - is not. As part of democracy we give papers free reign to publish under the law and let the public decide with their wallet which they prefer. If we don't like a paper we don't buy it, but we do not try to hinder the spread of legal information - that is an attempt interfere with freedom of speech. Today the Sun is targeted, tomorrow some other voice they don't like ... it never ends.

The reality is all media comes with bias and all are guilty of something as far as somebody somewhere is concerned.

If Plusnet had made this decision off their own bat I would not be hugely bothered but the reality is they are now acting as a political proxy for the views of left-wing activists and undermining the free press in that context. If Plusnet are effectively playing politics I'll vote with my wallet - for another provider. Undecided

Plusnet ethical advertising - really good news

They are no longer advertising in the SUN http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/02/uk-isp-plusnet-stops-advertising-sun-newspaper-backlash... so given that the Daily Mail and Daily Express are tarred with the "hate" tag I assume that they won't advertise there either (assuming that they did of course)

Of course the other factor is which demographic Plusnet are aiming at given these circulation numbers

Re: Looks like Plusnet has entered politics ...

Here is what the Press Gazette and other people have said about "Stop Funding Hate" -

Writing for the Press Gazette, Dominic Ponsford criticised Stop Funding Hate and its campaigners for encouraging people to influence the content of newspapers they don't read themselves, and raised concerns about advertisers influencing the content of newspapers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Funding_Hate

And in Spiked, Naomi Firsht -

Naomi Firsht described the campaign as "entirely about censorship", arguing that consumers should simply not buy newspapers if they disagree with their content.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Funding_Hate

Really great to see a company undermine the press and journalism to serve the aims of clearly ideologically  left-wing activists.

Well done Plusnet! It's a vile paper. They just published a story about a nurse doing porn when they were training for no reason other than to wreck his career. I have no idea what they were trying to achieve except ruining the guys life.

As long as he is a good nurse who cares!

Re: Looks like Plusnet has entered politics ...

i assume as plusnet have made a stand here that they also don't wish to have any customers that buy the sun?
is it just the sun they have an issue with? or any newspaper that published anything they don't agree with ?

if it's a murdoch thing, will they be removing their advertising from all sky channels too?

More virtue signalling by the left, they lost the Brexit vote, trump is the new president of the USA, and is welcome to come for state visit despite more petition fraud, their petition to stop the visit was rejected, and then there's that clown Bercow the stunted speaker  we want to know when  he is leaving

whatever side you fall on, i would say that Bercow is entitled to his opinion and to voice it.
unless we are now saying that some opinions should be silenced?
