You have never supplied a service ...

Who is that comment addressed to?
Why won't you do as I requested and post your router stats? (are you trolling?)

Re: Low Speed Record?

It's not Oftel it's Ofcom.
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/
However, as others have posted, you need to wait until BT's sytems update your profile - that can take up to three days.
Speed faults do happen and are usually the result of bad wiring or unfiltered sockets. A blip like you've seen can be caused by pulling the router connection out of the phone socket without turning the router off first, for example.  If you don't get another blip your speeds should improve when the exchange sorts your profile out (this is *nothing* to do with Plusnet - it's the same with any provider who uses BT's systems).  You can check your profile by running a BT Speedtest - it's called the IP Profile on the results.  You'll not get a speed tester to give you a result higher than this figure.  You can also check this in the PN member center here - it's under "current line speed" and should be the same as the BT Speedtester result for IP profile.
Note that your speed will not improve until your IP profile does - this is down to an automated system out of Plunet's control.  You just have to sit tight for three days.
Also remember that most people who post on here DO NOT work for Plusnet - they're users of the service just like you.

Re: Low Speed Record?

Why couldn't you just Google OFTEL yourself?
Anyway, here's a link to the information you requested: http://www.oftel.gov.uk/

"You" = plusnet.
BT have (I understand from plusnet engineer link:csa removed ) accepted that there a line fault causing the line to intermittently fail.
No I am not trolling, I am a customer pursuing a company whose actions deserve to be made public for the benefit of other customers.

Re: Low Speed Record?

Hi Damson,
Thanks for your time on the phone just now.
It looks like your Sky box was probably causing some interference to the signal that your router was getting, and disconnecting this has improved your signal speed by 1Mbps.
Like I said, if you give it 2-3 days, you should see your speeds back to the level that they used to be at.

Re: Low Speed Record?

Well, the Skybox has been there for more than 3 years (1yr 5 3/4 months with AOL).
AOL may have had a different technical system to plusnet, it has a LLU operator presence (www.samknows.com) in my local exchange.
I reported a fault, had the line tested and was advised it was OK which is what one might expect from an intermittent fault.
We'll see what transpires over the weekend.

Re: Low Speed Record?

Damson, you clearly haven't got a clue about how maxDSL works on BTw provisioned exchange connection. PN have absolutely no control on how long it takes to recover from a low sync event. Customers like those that have already posted in your thread and myself are often here on the forums to help out with problems.
You have several times now been asked for your Router's ADSL line stats so that someone can have a clue as to what's happeneing with your line. I hope James from PN has managed to solve your problems, because with your current attitude none of the others or myself will bother wasting our time trying to help. I certainly shan't be back here for a couple of days.
There is plenty of information on PN's support pages and on the community site also on the kitz site that will tell you about maxDSL. I suggest you have a good look around and read (use google and other search facilities). When you have calmed down and have a bit of an understanding and posted in a more reasonable manner then perhaps someone may help you to get the best from your line.
I don't know if there is anyone else feeling a little more charitable than I am at the moment who may post you some links, but little effort is required to find them yourself.

Not me for one, some people just don't want to be helped, merely to throw blame around.  Angry
It's definitely NOT an Arnie moment (I'll NOT be back here) more Dolphin ("So long and thanks for all the fish").
Sadly it looks like the problems were brought across to PlusNet and they're totally unreasonably getting the blame. Even worse people trying to help are being tarred with the same brush.  Embarrassed

Re: Low Speed Record?

Anotherone and HP
I went through the router report with James Bailey, so, thank you, but there is no need at this time to copy and paste it here.
There were 3 issues present which plusnet, as the supplier, were bound to deal with.
The second reduction from 1.2 to 0.2Mb will be dealt with when BT reset the speed.
The first issue concerns the speed reduction from 3.1 to 1.2 when I switched over last week.
The third is the refusal of plusnet to cancel on the 8th day despite the problems having been raised on the 7th day.
I appreciate your offers of help, but I am pleased with the progress my case made today.
I suspect many consumer issues can make progress by postings in public forums.
On this occasion all that was needed (and I hope will be needed) is a response without third party involvement.
I didn't get that response from the plusnet Help Assistant system alone.

Absolutely. Nor exactly "house-trained" in the forum household.  Wink
But he's now voted himself onto the "ignore" list for many of the more useful people who hang around here, having got what he (selfishly) needs elsewhere.  Lips_are_sealed
