Network slumbering - running at half-speed

According to the BT speedtester, my line runs at 6Mbps
The Plusnet profile says 5.5Mbps (it hasn't caught up yet)
So a speedtester should give a speed of 5Mbps+ ?
These were all taken at the same time, even if some are showing BST+1, rather than BST

What gateway are you on?
Just tried it on my home line (via thn-ag3) and got full line speed...

Re: Network slumbering - running at half-speed

Hi Jeremy,
This is one of the common issues we're seeing on 21C currently.
BT have acknowledged it as a problem which they're currently working on.  It appears to be capacity related at the exchange end.

Re: Network slumbering - running at half-speed

Thanks James.
BT are in trouble - my exchange serves a primarily residential area, no office blocks!
Lots of large schools though - currently on holiday, which I would imagine to be heavy internet users.

Hmm.  Wouldn't be massively surprising if that were the case.

Re: Network slumbering - running at half-speed

i wonder if its just because am on a 2500kbps profile any way that i dont see the thoughput problems so many are having or is it because of the elevated best effoft which i belive comes with a promise by BTw to to give me at least 3mb for somthing like at least 80% of the peak time.
ive not been totaly un effected over the past month or 2 i have had 2 spells of bad/ jumpy thoughput that lasted for around 1/2 hours before dis appering

Re: Network slumbering - running at half-speed

You're less likely to see contention issues as you're on the elevated traffic profile.
Bit similar to the old 20:1 contention product.

I don't see any of the issues being reported either with the throughtput or PPP or DLM. I'm also on a 2500 profile.

Re: Network slumbering - running at half-speed

Just discovered that BT aren't moving BT retail customers onto "Up to 20Mbits" at the local exchange yet:-
If you put my phone number into http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=26957&s_cid=con_FURL_...
It says:-
